rangerman Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Hmmmm, I've never been called a troll :-(, however, i check in every day and read through just about everything on the forum, just cause I like to. I was not going to respond to this thread but did not want to be thought of as a non contributor. I'm all walleye and do not allow bass in my boat...rather fish for something hard to catch. ;-0
LD Fisher Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I guess I'm a troll. I was on the page when the post came out. My wife and I fished from our pontoon for the last 5 years and never really caught much of anything as much as numbers or size. Then we hired Bill B this spring and my wife caught a 6+ pound bass on her second cast. We went out the next morning way up the Kings and using the techniques Bill showed us and she caught a 3 1/2 pound LM. Cost me a bass boat we bought late this Sept and additional tackle which I see posted here from time to time. We both read the posts to try and learn how to be better fishermen, not to try and "identify fishing spots". We had talked about the tournament this March since it doesn't cost anything and we thought it would be fun, if my wife has recovered from surgery enough to go, but now I don't think we try to make it because it would be obvious that we are outsiders and don't know enough to make the trip worthwhile.

Hope you change your mind and come out to the OAF tournament, it should be fun. There shouldn't be any thoughts about not knowing enough to come out and have some fun. This Forum is for learning more about bass fishing on the Rock, sharing information about techniques, gear, and anything else beneficial to it's members. Daryk Campbell Sr 1 Born to Fish. Shoot, come on down to the tournament and bring the missus. I've never met most of the guys myself, but I am looking forward to putting some faces to monikers. As far as spots to fish for the tournament, send me a PM and I can give you some. Daryk Campbell Sr 1

I hope your wife's surgery recovery goes spendidly. As for "outsiders," the only outsiders from a gathering of message board acquaintances would be those who choose not to come. Regarding knowledge of the area, from Eagle Rock you can see the entrance of the Roaring River into the White and the entrance of any river or major creek into the main lake always has several great locations - Roaring River is no exception. In addition, four different channel bends or swings exist within sight of 86 bridge. Every channel swing has at least one fish holding area, often more. In other words, if you apply what you learned from BB and reading, you will not have to run far for likely areas to fish. Please join us if you can. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
Members TTJJ Posted January 2, 2015 Members Posted January 2, 2015 LD, you better check with your insurance agent first about any boat insurance policy exclusions. My boat insurance policy strictly forbids any type of competitive boating activity. This includes bass tournaments, benefit crappie tournaments, even free tournaments. Any boat damage or medical issues would not be covered. This major insurance company insures my house, trucks, and boat.

All though when I am on Taney, once a year, I do post what I am doing there, that advice and $4 will get you a cup of coffee at the bucks!. You folks make it bearable since I live in an area that uses the term lake like you would a shallow back water area....most of our lakes are no wake!! Tough when you have 250HP hanging on the back Anyway - please keep posting and I promise I will not poach your place but I may say hi if I am in the area! C4F Having escaped central Iowa myself, I would lurk anywhere to avoid thinking about those silt retention ponds loosely known as lakes. Might even hide if you tried to make me fish one. fishingaddiction 1
LD Fisher Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Sorry guys...and gals. I was a little put out buy the post, guess its the cloudy cold weather and staying inside as chief cook and bottle washer right now. We have a house on the upper Kings and we are very familiar with that part of the lake down to Viola due to the limits of the pontoons plodding speed. We don't really have trouble identifying fish and it's going to be a lot easier with the electronics on the new bass boat. Where we run into problems is not knowing the right bait and presentation. We used to get tired of casting and then just troll with the pontoon. We want to change that and that's why I spend so much time on OA. I'm trying to be a sponge on types of baits and techniques and identifying a decent presentation for the various times of the year. Unfortunately, I believe the best teacher is going to be trial and error along with as much time on the water as possible. We are not hard core fishermen in that 3 or 4 hours on the water is about all we do.........that might change once we get better!! But right now with limited skills and time on the water I don't think I have anything of value to contribute to this site right now other to say "nice job on the catching" and I do appreciate the value of the knowledge that is shared on how to catch fish on the site!! Happy New Year everyone!!!

Happy New Year everyone!!! I am not a 8 to 12 hour angler like I was in my 30's and 40's. Of course, in those days I drove 90 minutes to 4 hours to a lake for 1 or 2 days and tried to fish every available minute. Now days I fish 4 to 5 hours, max. My advice would be to start simple. Two winding baits - wiggle wart and a blade bait. Two dragging/hopping baits - Ned rig and a jig with trailer. One up and down bait - a spoon. One swim bait - a jig head with a grub. Two top water baits - a walker and a popper. Learn those and you will catch many fish in all seasons. tse90 and Champ188 2
