J-Doc Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 They see me trollin'..... Ya know they haten' Lol!! :-) If I could catch bass like Donna does with a jig, I'd probably do that more. I can throw a jig all day long. I just don't catch that many fish with it. Bites are rare for me with a jig. So then memories of blackend fish hit my taste buds, and then mysteriously lines go over the sides and out behind the boat. :-) Ham and Daryk Campbell Sr 2 Need marine repair? Tanderson15 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 No Doc, I haven't been out for two months now. I left the north because I did not want to ice fish. I'm a wimp. But I might have to sin and try stripers. Have only fished walleyes since I moved here in '07. I do have a question about releasing stripers. When I was stationed in TN I had a problem with the big ones surviving from the fight. Is that a problem in the cold weather? Have plenty of fish in the freezer just want a little fun if I can catch one or two. I'm looking for my long johns now. I guess first I'll have to troll the site befor I go out trolling for stripers as it will be a new experience for me here. I'll post on we're and what I didn't catch them on ?
J-Doc Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Well there's a fella in a deep v glass boat then that's wondering why I was waving and honking. Lol! Careful......catching stripers is contageous. On e you get on a big one, you will want more. And they taste great too. I actually prefer them over walleye. Yes.......I said that. I like grouper, amber jack, and other salt water species also so there is my reasoning for the preference. Right now, they are moving up river. Catching your own bait is key I'm told. I bet they can be caught trolling too. If they are active. Depends on the day. Yes, they will survive the fight if released immediately. They don't keep well in a livewell. Probably because they aren't big enough to let them swim. Haha! Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! Feathers and Fins Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 They can be released and I release many of them. Just kick your boat in gear and hold them in the water till you feel them kicking on their own. They kind of remind me of snook in they will suck on your finger and when ready they will let go. Terry think SHALLOW they are not near as deep as people think most of mine have been coming from 6 to 20ft of water. Trolling Rapala SR9's will get you down to 20 with no problem and flicker shad #6 and 7 will take care of the rest. But even better the walleye have been VERY SHALLOW pulled several out of less than 4ft and caught a couple down to 15ft. I haven't been out much this week because of the flu or I would be looking in shallow water near bait. Real neat seeing them on your graph when you pass over them in shallow water, looks like this on mine https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Tanderson15 Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Way to go F&F. Now I'll want to go after the walleyes instead of stripers Thanks for info.
Feathers and Fins Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Here is another one from this afternoon. I couldn't take it any longer I had to get out... Shad above, Striper below them. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Quillback Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 There was a write-up yesterday in the Bentonville paper. Winning big bass was 5.15, and the guys who had the big bass also won the tourney. Came on a craw colored crankbait (Wiggle Wart most likely). Winners claim they caught their fish in the Hickory creek area up shallow in stained water.
