crazy4fishin Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 the only way to fish against someone with comparable abilities would be to have a handicap type tournament something like team roping does. it would take some doing and setting up, because you would need to have a series of tournaments to establish a handicap for each one. of course, you can improve as you go along, and be boosted up to competing with anglers with better abilities. a bit off topic, but something to consider. bo This!!! Much like recording your golf handicap!! Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
5bites Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 my wife fished with me and prior to going she desperately wanted us to get matching t-shirts so it looked like we fish as a team... Yea don't do that. That was to close.
balsabee Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 If I was choosing a fishing partner for a tournament and had to choose between the jersey wearing wannabe with all the fancy equipment or the guy that shows up with old rods and worn out 5500c garcias and a roached out boat. I'll take the second option every time which to me is the face of experience. Champ188 1
Members Brandon Knight Posted January 9, 2015 Members Posted January 9, 2015 wraps and displaying of brands really doent matter, I come from motocross background and people have been doing it for years and years, displaying brands on their bikes and graphics for local races, just trying to show loyalty to the brands they like even if they don't get any sponsorship from them, so I say if you want to wrap your boat to advertise for a brand like hummingbird or lowrance or abu Garcia , the go for it, cause more than likely its your money that paid for the wrap and all thet stuff anyway I agree completely and also come from a motocross/hare scramble background. Most graphics you buy for a bike already have the "sponsors" on it. Heck whenever fox went mainstream everyone became a motocrosser! And for the jersey talk, a lot of these guys win their jerseys at tournaments and banquets, not all of them buy them to "look" the part. Granted there are always gonna be the people with money falling out of their pockets that will have custom jerseys and wraps made just to fish in a small time tournament but for the most part I think a lot of guys are just proud to be a competitive fisherman. jaspy111 1
Sore Thumbs Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Wrench - I see what you are saying....full disclosure my only "touney" was the Oakley Big Bass event last year.....didn't win any money but had fun and a pretty good lunch and I like the rod.... I will probably do it again this year. And I have to tell this story - my wife fished with me and prior to going she desperately wanted us to get matching t-shirts so it looked like we fish as a team....whew, after reading this I am glad I dodged that bullet! Just having some fun Champ! Anyway back to my thought - are you also referring to club tournaments? Or are you referring to more organized events like Fisher of Men, FLW and the likes? You make a good case for a solid business model that would make money for the tourney and the players. The dilution that you refer to is why some of these other events are suffering, or I assume that to be the case....only so many $$$ to go around. And Champ - you are so right.....I had a t-shirt that read "second place is the first loser" C4F The matching shirt deal with the wife is totally different deal. Her reasons for wanting to do it are not the same. I say do it if it makes her happy. Seth and Brandon Knight 2
buddygr53 Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 hello all. I read on here about the people who wear there shirts with patches and logos on. I also know not all receive money from sponsors. I my self am a weekend person who likes to fish tournaments. I have a jersey with sponsors names on it. I wear it when I fish tournaments. Why? because , like on table rock I stay at one of the resorts who cuts me a deal for having his name on my shirt. I have a reel company who helps out. The $300.00 reels you see on the market I get at a vary reduced cost to me. Plastics, like tubes, I get a reduced cost . along with rods. I my self sponsor a kid tournament in Kenora Canada. I fish the Kenora Bass International each year. While we are out fishing they run a kids tournament off the city docks. They have about 250 kids each year. I sponsor the kids bye supplying each and every kid a bag of plastics from my sponsors Keep in mind they don't give them to me I buy them at a reduce cost. But with out them I could not do this. So in turn I try to get there name out there as much as I can. This is the thanks I give them in return. gatorbitu 1

If you receive a discount greater than is afforded the general public in return for representing a company's product, then they are your sponsor and you SHOULD display their logo in appropriate settings. More power to you. Furthermore, thank you so much for what you are doing for those kids. That is extremely generous of you and I know that everyone on this forum and beyond truly appreciate it ... the kids most of all.

You respect your sponsors and fulfill your obligation with class and dignity. Need more people like you out there. Much respect.
kjackson Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Yeah, what ST said. To lighten the jersey debate, look up "The Pro Staffer" on youtube. Champ188 1
