Ham Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 It's a dilemma. I want to help without giving everything I've worked out away to the WWW. I have close friends that I will share every detail with. On big bodies of water I try to share what I consider the proper amount. I give current conditions like water temp, water color, weather, etc and how I was able to catch what I caught in a broad area of the lake. Ideally, I'll be able to fish the fish I found the next time I go without so much company that I Can't get back to "my" spot. I won't say ANYTHING about my creek trips online. Nope. Not anymore. If you know me and have questions, PM me or text me. The White River is a state/ federally sponsored play ground. They put millions of fish in the river year round. I'll try to help ppl catch fish all day and night. I enjoy catching them and I want others to enjoy it too. Be aware of what search engines are capable of. What you post stays out there basically forever. If you a C&R guy, I promise you that there are ppl that are definitely using search engines and other apps to increase their harvest of the resource. I've seen it. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

Feathers and Fins Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Dan; I can understand your concerns when I post info on Beaver it is very specific. I have had friends comment that it could be an issue as so many people will be doing it but the one thing I have discovered is I can put out all the detailed info possible but very few people can ( more to the point wont ) do what I have put out. We even videoed it some this December and people still either would not believe it, or just get set in their way so much they are unwilling to try it. Then they say they couldn’t catch a thing. I guess people didn’t believe we were catching fish in 2 to 10ft in winter or that we were doing it on top water even though the video showed it. I told people NOT to run in to the birds or run their big motor yet time after time they did it anyway and couldn’t figure out why they were not catching fish. I guess its like Yakfm say about me it’s that attention to the small details I pay that others do not that makes the difference. So I am not concerned about giving info on how to fish baits or depth etc. But the one thing I have decided to stop doing is giving exact location. The reason for that is simple, Lack Of Respect from other anglers to other anglers. I will say when it comes to other OAF contributing members there is a great amount of respect given and I would feel very comfortable telling them and calling them in to a bite. In fact there have been times where 4 or 5 of us all in different boats were in a good bite and never an issue. But I have had other anglers getting in to it and crossing lines or just flat out moving right in on the fish messing it up for the ones working together. I have gotten tired of the rudeness of the internet scouters myself, and understand where you are coming from. I will continue to Help with how to but I will only be giving general area openly, they can search for the spots and the lakes are BIG lakes. To OAF contributing members the exact info is only a PM away though. It sucks it has to come down to that but when 3 or 4 of us can fish water side by side and never an issue then someone comes blowing in and shuts the bite down because they won’t play well with others, well that bad apple has ruined it yet again for the barrel. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Feathers and Fins Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Oh hey I didn't even see the flicker shad comment... you leave my dynamite out of it lol. Little off subject im still not sold on the Flicker Minnows yet I really want to test them out more in spring and see what they do but right now they are still low on my confidence bait list or high return for time on water baits. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I have been dragging the #7 minnows a lot lately. Been catching just as many crappie on those as I have the flicker shad. I like them a lot
jerry241 Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I for 1 really appreciate any info you guys are willing to post. I spend a lot of time reading this forum because as a truck driver this is as close as I can usually get to being on the water. Hopefully that will change one day but for now gotta roll. I really enjoy living vicariously thru you guys who are able to spend a lot of time on the water and just wanted to say thanks
aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 Speaking of flickers. I'm stopping by cabelas in witchita today if there is any special colors anyone might need. I'll be on upper bull this weekend. Well I'm off for the next 12 days so I'll be around
Bird Watcher Posted January 15, 2015 Posted January 15, 2015 I was about to say...Flicker shad? You mean the FnF crank? I'll go along with every thing else, but Berkley should probably make FnF the Mid South director of marketing. He's probably done more to promote that bait than they have. Ham 1
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 15, 2015 Root Admin Posted January 15, 2015 There's no way to tell how OAF affects traffic in spots. I'd be flattered if it made that big of a difference- plus there's more than one forum on the internet talking about fishing and "spots". "First day they moved in shallow we caught 150 big crappie then 1 week later I saw posts telling every detail and even some detail on piles that many knew about but not the whole world. Next week boat explosion some from just local knowledge but many from this site and boats on every pile. We still caught 90 the next week but size was down and numbers down." You don't think catching 150 crappie would affect your numbers and size of fish alone? And don't you think those hoards of boats would arrive to fish for crappie regardless of any posts? I'd be thrilled to catch 10 limits of crappie and I'd think most people would be thrilled to catch half that number- or less. I'm not being critical of your post - just an observation. I think more and more anglers are getting MDC's lake app and finding those brush piles. Forums may be the reason - so are articles written about these apps. I admit - I'm a "spot guy". Always have been - since 1997 when I started reporting on the internet. I am, though, respectful of spots I learn from other anglers- I've learned that the hard way. But I'm with F&F - you can report all the detail you can and still ppl won't hurt do as well as you would think. I may be less sensitive to all this because of where I live and fish. I have almost got used to seeing big nice rainbows being taken out and cleaned out of Taneycomo, all the time wishing more people would throw back the 15 inchers (and bigger) and keep the 12 inchers. But I've learned there are always going to be good and bad times, and the good times will always come back- there will always be good fishing trips and bad ones, and the goods ones I look forward to.
