Quillback Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I sure didn't go over to K dock to fish for walleye, but you did fake me out. I'd be a little careful about posting fake reports, doesn't do much for the integrity of the forum - I realize this is a one-time deal, but I'm hoping it does not encourage others to do so. Members crappiekayaker Posted January 20, 2015 Members Posted January 20, 2015 Long time reader, first time poster/responder. Your post did not have any influence on my fishing this weekend. Although, your post did make me over come with envy lol. Taking what I’ve read and trying to apply that knowledge, I tried to target deep water crappie. Went to Fellows and down river of Cape Fair but didn’t find any crappie. Long story short, I’m not one to chase someone’s fish. I like reading what you all post and applying that knowledge to the area I fish. I’d sure like to land a few walleye (like those in the picture) but I’m not going to hoard in on someone’s spot to do so. That being said, if some spills info on the whites running up to Blunks, you best believe I’ll be in the area. I understand that contradicts what I just said. To me that’s a little different of a chase then laying claim to someone’s brush pile. Sorry to be long winded but no, your post did not influence me. Keep the information flowing, without it people like me will be left in the dark.
BATCAB27 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 All you've done for me is make me think that all your fish catching stories are just that....stories.
vonreed Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 You ruined my whole life Ducky, wah wah wah!!!! I didn't think you'd post a fake report, but it did cross my mind that is what you were doing after what happened on the other fishing report post. I always take fishing reports with a grain of salt, because bites change by the minute most times anyway. I love reading everyones reports because I get an idea of whether fish are biting, or not biting. I rarely go to a spot because someone said they caught something at a certain spot. Most likely IMO if someone recognizes a location in a photo or knows where the spot is by name, then that person already knows that is a good or bad spot to fish before the fishing report was posted.
fishinwrench Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I played a similar April fools prank on the old ATL board, and for the same reason. It resulted in more "victims" than I expected making a 20-40 mile run and driving around in circles for upwards to an hour watching their LCR's trying to locate the old Sagrada bridge pilings on the upper Osage where I had allegedly caught a fast limit of 4-6lbers. We took video of it and showed it when I broke down and announced "April Fools" on the whole thing. The cool part of it all was that none of the regular forum crew were victims of it, they were all lurkers who's boats nobody recognized. Otherwise I probably would have been lynched. It showed me how much effect a detailed report on an open forum can have though, and as much as I like (love) to help fishermen out I have to step on my hands every time I have an exceptional day and wish I could share it openly with my online fishing acquaintances.
Quillback Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Certainly anything posted on April one should be subject to extreme scrutiny. I tell myself that all the time, but somehow still will fall for something.
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I find it was an interesting experiment. I live in the st Louis area, and only fish a few times per year, mostly the information found by me would never be tried. But I do appreciate all of the experiences that are shared. In a way, I am glad that your results did not show many people showing up, kinda disproves the beliefs of many who withhold all information, due to fears of some one finding the honey hole, or the next secret. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. (me) I am the master of my unspoken words, and the slave to those that should have remained unsaid. (unknown)
ten_scoach Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I bit hook line and sinker, but it wasn't all bad. Had planned trip to stockton because winter crappie bite is going well. Learned some new water as I've never fished bull before. Did pick up a short eye at 17.5 in the first hours of the am. Decided to pick it up late am and headed above the dam for a limit of trout then jumped one more dam to chase some deep bass. Completed a white river trifecta and enjoyed beautiful weather and good fellowship. I would have to agree with quill on posting fake reports. Lesson learned on my end. Go with what you know.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted January 20, 2015 Root Admin Posted January 20, 2015 I have chased many fish stories in my time, mainly word of mouth stories. I don't know if they were true or not - I bet most were true reports - but I'll tell ya most of the time I don't do as well as the story I heard. May be 90% of the time. Common sense has to come into play. You take what you've learned and add a little bit of a good report and go from there. If you jump in hook, line and sinker, you're probably out of your element and you won't do well, even if the fishing is decent.
