Members trytofish Posted January 21, 2015 Members Posted January 21, 2015 I am having some trouble try to locate the right jig head for the ned rig. I have been taking a shakey head and flatning it out with a hammer and seems to work ok but would like to try the right ones I gues. Any suggestions on where to get these and what there called? thanks
Guest Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 ^^^^^ Dtrs5kprs makes the best jighead available. IMO
Members spbubba Posted January 21, 2015 Members Posted January 21, 2015 I have had good luck with his jigheads as well.
Smithvillesteve Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 They talk about a "gopher head" jig. I have never heard of that one. Any advice on where a guy might buy those? I am in the KC area. So Rogers, Dicks, Cabela's, Bass Pro would be good for me. Also, am i correct that they use mostly a 1/16 oz jig head for the Ned Rig? I am looking forward to getting down to Table Rock in the next few weeks and trying the Ned out. My buddy has a place on the White River just up from the Big M. My moral dilemma is should i keep the Ned a secret on him? He always kicks my butt down there fishing!!!!

Just kidding of course, let him know. He may not fish it anyway, some people just don't like to fish the Ned. Nothing wrong with that of course.

Cabela's used to stock a few gophers but they had big hooks, more for the up north jig worm deal. BPS might have some of the zman heads. Have not been down there for a long time. Rogers did not on Monday, but it is very easy to miss things in there with all the product. Heads are the hardest part to find. Lots of heads will work, but not optimally. It is like anything else, depends on how much you want to dial it in. Not very many, if any, other heads with a guard and the right hook. The 1/16 is the basic size, but don't be afraid to throw the 1/8 if you need to keep it on the bottom. Have not warmed up to anything larger. If you check out the WinkiDoodles videos or my videos you will see quite as few of the various heads available. 521VX05 on YouTube.
Bill Babler Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 MOGUY 73 There are much better heads on the market. I am on Dave to show another video and explain more about his system for the Ned, as it is a system. You have multiple parts and each is as important as the next when you are fishing such a finesse type of presentation. The jig head is one of the most important aspects of the entire package. A jig with a extended led collar and a bait holder is just about worthless as far as I'm concerned. First you are dealing with a very fragile piece of equipment. With a lead collar and a bait holder below the head it makes the 2.5 inch bait either split at the top or it extends the sides of the bait complete outside of the jig head. Also no matter how much glue you put on this head it looks like CRUD, and will not hold. If you make a jig head that has a flat bottom and allows the bait to slide completely to the flat head to be glued it looks uniform and clean. Look at my post of the bait from a couple of days ago. This is the correct method of attaching the body to the perfect head that matches the entire system. I had another head and I believe Swing Oil sent me one. It is a flat stand alone head without a collar it also worked very well. The weight of the collar also extending down the hook shaft instead of being in the head its self I'm for sure would make a difference. Dave, get on this. rps and Champ188 2 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
