Champ188 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I think the spotted bass is underated, for it is a great fighter, very aggressive and a beautiful looking fish. My goal is to catch one over 5lbs on the Rock. I know probably a steep goal, but going to keep trying. Not at all out of the question, Jozark. You may have seen it, but Dan Morehead (from Kentucky, of all places) caught a 6-pound, 12-ounce spot during an FLW Tour stop on Table Rock a few years back. Just a gorgeous fish. Dewayne French 1
Members Jozark Posted January 30, 2015 Members Posted January 30, 2015 Champ I did see this fish what a beautiful specimen, and I also believe the MO state record came out of the Rock as well. I just got to put my time in and have some luck. Champ thanks for sharing this picture.
Sprint21fter Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 My dad caught 6lb 8oz Kentucky and another 6lber in 1992 at differents ends of the lake. The biggest was caught up in Fischer Creek and the other one on a road bed up the Kings. They are in there. Both came out over 40 plus feet. I fortunately, haven't caught one over 5lbs but a few years ago on New Year's Eve I ran into a pile of the magnum spots in a pocket around Campbell Point. All caught on fish head spin with a smoking shad fluke. Pictures are on the forum just have to look back a few years to find them. Table Rock is the only place that you can realistically can have a shot at catching 20lbs of three different species of bass. Champ188 1
*T* Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 5 fish, 20 pounds of spots? Wouldn't that be something!! "Water is the driving force of all Nature."Â -Leonardo da Vinci
Smalls21 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 buddy of mine a couple years ago caught a 6lb-5oz spot around cape fair
Sprint21fter Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 It would be hard to do but definitely has happened on the Smallmouth or very near 20lbs. Lets look more at 18lbs of spots that could definitely happen. However, if you fish tournaments you would get a eyebrow raise but not a very big check. rogerdodger 1
Alex Heitman Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I think Table Rock is about to explode into a world class smallmouth fishery. I couldn't believe how many 3 + lb smallmouth I caught last spring. In the next few years we could be looking at tons of 4 + lb smallmouth here. There is so many of them in the lake. I think we have some fantastic smallmouth fishing ahead of us gents. Champ188 and Ham 2
Sprint21fter Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 If anybody remembers the record flood a fews years back, there was going to be a BASS Open in April and there would have been some 20lb bags of smallmouth brought in but they cancelled it. They were catching them 30 ft deep where the original bank line was and where the current would set them up. I had a blast catching mixed bags during that flood on spinnerbaits. You never knew what you were going to catch, you would throw by a flooded tree on one cast catch a 4lb smallmouth, throw to the next one and catch a 3.5lb spot and bring out 4 of his friends with it and throw at the next one and catch a 4lbs largemouth. Great fun and lasting memories.

Champ188 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 In 2010, Tim Sainato and Steve Redford brought in a five-fish limit of smallmouth that weighed over 18 pounds in the Central Pro-Am team tournament. I remember it well because Donna and I finished second with 16 pounds and change. Tim was catching his fish from deep (invisible) beds on a grub and I believe he won the pro-am event the day before, too. Of course, he was fishing gravel runout points on the lower end of the lake. Donna and I were on a Redfin bite in the middle section of the White River.
