Guest Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 SO is the TuRD supposed to contain salt or not? Im pretty sure its got the salt. Although I prefer the Strike King Zero...(smoky bling is an interesting color)
dtrs5kprs Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 SO is the TuRD supposed to contain salt or not? Yes, but less salt. Ned mentioned something the other day about them reformulating the Hula Stickz also. We were having one of those Shadz discussions...

Seth Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Finally got to try out this famed rig today on the Gasconade River. Caught a smally on my very first cast and thought here we go! Well I caught a few more before I broke off several jigs due to snagging wood on the bottom and decided that was enough. I will be holding off on using it until I can find some weedless models to purchase. We tried some Eakins jigs and shakey heads with beavers, which were much more snag proof, but the NED was the only bottom bait that produced. The jerkbait bite was decent too so we just switched over to those the rest of the day.

I've used gamakatsu wacky jig heads with tungsten wire guards and they are really good but $3.00 each. And then went to regular round jig heads with multi heavy mono weedguards that I trim length and number of monofilaments. They worked good too, but I wonder about and always look for a better way. And now I've got a batch of Dave's heads with a single wire guard and they look really good. Point being you are right about losing them a lot without a weedguard. Rocks and wood in the river will just drive you jack batty otherwise.
dtrs5kprs Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Little sticks are the worst. You can get an open hook through pole timber, but little branches and twigs just eat it up. That is what drove me to make a weedless head in the first place, one particular lake in KS that has a ton of little nuisance wood. Not even fish holding stuff, just little multi directional sticks all over the banks. Two of us went through about 15-20 gophers and outkast heads one day. When we weren't breaking off we were wasting time fiddling them free of the wood. Enough was enough. With a guard, I probably go through 1-3 heads per day, depending on what I am fishing, wind, etc. Seth 1
Ham Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 You can go thru a crap ton of them providing jigs for four guys fishing them around oyster beds. Just sayin. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

It's hard to not fish around little sticks and small trees that have fallen in to the water on that river. I'll be sending you my order shortly.
