No cooking today. Went to see my daughter’s youth theater show at Harris Stowe and stopped by Rockwell Brewing with some others to fuel up the kids and talk with other theater parents during the break between the afternoon and evening performance. It’s on the edge of the Grove gay bar stretch of Vandeventer. That area was a slum, but it has really risen in the last ten years. Good beers and great burgers.  I’ll be back. It was also naked bike ride day. It looks like they had a good turnout. Naked folks riding around all over the place in spite of a light drizzle.

There are days that I am glad I live in nowhere.  Naked folks on bikes are a sight that needs to be unseen.

Lots of rotten bike seats tonite I am thinking......

Been a good gandering season. Tub of plenty! Both of the two meals on this installment on what's cooking used stuff from the garden plus some fish from the last outing.

First meal hybrid, fried green tomatoes and sauteed squash.IMG_20240726_142741515.jpg

Then stuffed cubanell peppers. Did a big pan full. Leftovers and they freeze well. In the side salad tomatoes and banana wax peppers from the garden.

Finally I awoke our sourdough starter after about two years. Unbelievable. Third time after getting it started again. Done outside in the trager pellet grill.

I have no idea what made me let it go idle. Good stuff Maynard.

Who has a good fish taco recipe?  Got some striper fillets I need to do something with, I could deep fry, but I want to try fish tacos.

I don’t but one thing I used to do was cut fish into cubes, lightly boil them then dip them in cocktail sauce (poor man’s lobster).

We do and have done that for years. Usually with the big fly rod bluegill. First recipe I found for this was thirty years ago for using freshwater drum. It was called "lobster imposter" perfect for drum.

I don’t know if this would work with fish, but we really like this shrimp taco recipe

Shrimp Tacos

Ingredients
Marinade
1/4 cup canola oil
1/2 teaspoon chipotle powder
1 teaspoon ancho chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt

Sauce
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon Trappey’s Red Devil hot sauce
1/4 teaspoon chipotle powder

Salsa
1 mango, diced
2 teaspoons minced jalapeno
1 tablespoon minced red onion
Juice of 1/2 lime
Sugar if needed

1 pound peeled, deveined shrimp
6 medium-sized flour tortillas

Directions
1. Combine the marinade ingredients. Marinade shrimp for 1/2 hour at room temperature.
2. Combine sauce ingredients and set aside.
3. Briefly heat flour tortillas on grill to warm and slightly char.
4. Remove shrimp from marinade. Grill shrimp until just cooked through.
