I feel as though I owe the planet an apology, last New Years Day I skipped my eating of  Black Eye Peas, which I actually like.  IIRC I just didn't have any on hand and was too lazy to drive anywhere and buy some.  Wel by golly I aint taking that risk again, went and bought a can.  4 slices of smoked jowl, a diced yellow onion, a spoonful of minced garlic, and a small can of diced green chilies.  At that point you have added about anything and it would be good.  Right now it is all slow simmering, but dang it does taste good and hopefully my luck will be better in 2021. Already better I think, both kids and grandson were here for NYE and the minor ice storm resulted in them deciding to spend the night, sleep late and I got to make breakfast for everyone, like stepping back in time, with the addition of a six year old and another border collie.

We love seafood. Put in an order with Lobstergram based on my sister's recommendation. Got a couple lobster tails and some king crab legs. Lobster on New Year’s Eve with twice-baked potato and some bubbly:

I got in the wayback machine to the mid 1970's.  And had a fried summer sausage sandwich with a slice of onion and yellow mustard on whole wheat.  Last time I remember eating one was in a bar in Carroll Iowa with my USMC best bud.  I was hungry, looked in  the fridge, saw the sausage and had a flashback.  And I can say it's still a fine sandwich.

We have been ordering for pickup or delivery. It sucks. Between the "shoppers" who do not care and the "shoppers" that choose the largest and oldest/most beat up/stanky choice, there will be, some day, a reckoning. A couple of weeks ago we ordered pita bread. We got lavash. Not what we ordered.

Tonight we made flat bread pizza to use up our lavash. Good stuff!

We did a variant with lobster tails, jumbo shrimp cocktail, and venison loin steaks for NYE. Side bernaise sauce and brown butter.. Also I made carrots with a maple ginger glaze. Livie made a trifle with chocolate and vanilla pudding with whipped cream separated into layers by ice ream sandwich wafers.

Do this every year. Braised pork with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Rub was Asian 5 spice, garlic powder, smoke paprika, and brown sugar. Browned the rubbed pork and then white wine, chicken stock, whole garlic cloves and chucked yellow onion for braise. Added sauerkraut and caraway seeds after 2 hrs at 350. Cooked another 35 mins.
