Terrierman Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 Limburger it was. Smells like... oh ... pretty bad. But if you like funky cheese. It's pretty up there. I like blue that is sharp enough to start to crystallize. But that limburger is bad in small doses.
MOPanfisher Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 When I was a kid we used to have "elephant meat" about once a month with onions. I was like 10 before it dawned on me it was liver, but I love liver, onions and yes liver gravy over the top. As for the "never again" list Southern Comfort, shudder. Chief Grey Bear 1
ness Posted November 13, 2017 Author Posted November 13, 2017 I get the itch for German every once in a while, like tonight, and I took the easy way to a similar dinner as the first one in this thread. Made a mushroom gravy and fried some very thin chops breaded in panko. Sides were Read’s German potato salad and Aunt Nellie’s jarred red cabbage. Pretty tasty, pretty painless too. It had a pungent aroma about it but I didn't think it was overly strong. I thought it had a nice flavor to it. I guess I mean it wasn't anywhere near as bad as you hear. I'd eat another jar of it, but I haven't seen it for years. ness Posted November 13, 2017 Author Posted November 13, 2017 When I was in college, a friend brought a big jar of bull testicles in some liquid from his farm back home in western Kansas. Several guys tried them, but I just couldn’t get past the image of those balls swirling around in that cloudy liquid. Two summers ago I saw them on the menu, and my son and I tried them. They were heavily breaded and just okay... it was really all about the breading. I checked it off the list and don’t have any desire to eat them again. Mitch f 1 John

I was at a beer, bacon and cheese festival a couple years ago and one of the vendors was giving samples of limberger and there was quite a line to try it because of its reputation. It smelled horrible, but the flavor was pretty good. Again, scratched it off the list. John
Mitch f Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 Things were hopping at the Fields home tonight. Ribeyes and mashed potatoes cooked via sous vide method. Asparagus and some pretty “dang” (thanks Ness) good vino. God has blessed us. Life is good! MOPanfisher, Johnsfolly, ness and 1 other 4 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
