Ness thanks a bunch!

You’re welcome. Transcribed that from her recipe card and left the directions and ingredients as she had written them. I’m sure you can decipher 😄

Patience is a virtue when it comes to Christmas Pudding.  Very nice and very English.  Or at least very not American.

Don’t know the origin of the recipe. Her parents were both from Ireland though.

Man, re-reading that recipe I sure see flaws. I’ve made it for so long I don’t notice errors because I know what to do. So, here’s a corrected version that clarifies step 5, which is the sauce.

Grandmother Mildred’s Date Nut Pudding

Ingredients
Pudding
1 cup chopped dates
1 cup boiling water
1/3 cup butter (6 tablespoons)
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon soda
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup flour

Sauce
2 cups sugar
¼ pound butter
1 pint light cream

Directions
1. Take your cup of chopped dates and pour your cup of boiling water over. Add soda mash to a pulp.
2. Take sugar and butter and cream together. Add the egg and nuts.
3. Combine the two mixtures and add flour.
4. Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour at 325 degrees.
5. Add ingredients for sauce to a double boiler. Cook over low heat for 3 hours. Stir occasionally.

Non meat eating elder daughter has gone home so I wanted something red in the middle. I paired lamb chops with a Mediterranean style farro salad.

I bet that pudding is tasty, but should be called "Sugar with nuts and dairy products", LOL.   I love fudge but have tried to stop eating it as it is basically sugar with butter and chocolate.

We still have a table of Christmas candy on the table. Mrs. BilletHead went overboard and plumb crazy making it this year. Do you want more sugar Quillback? I could send you several pounds :) .  The rum balls are and were the bomb!

People seem to love it or hate it. The cake part is really good -- very moist and nutty -- but the sauce puts it over the top. It is pretty sweet. Talked to my sister on Christmas and one of her daughters loves it and was grumbling that there wasn't any this year, so it's back on their menu.

Thanks my friend for thinking of me, but I am off sugar for the most part.  My blood sugar is too high.  I have a craving for some fudge, but not going to do it.
