Live yea it kinda sucks. They don't film for live though guys. They film for TV production. In other words the show will clean up well when it's aired.

If the live streaming thing keeps on though they'll definitely have to change the way it's produced and the way the show is ran. The suspense and excitement needs to keep going and not be drug out like that.

Bill,

Sounds like you were glued to your laptop as you are on point with everything you've said. Something that really stuck out to me yesterday while watching the live feed was when KVD came on stage with Zona. KVD said that water temp is "highly overrated" and amount/hours of sunlight during the day is much more important as that is the driving factor in when fish start to make migratory/spawning moves. Found that interesting. Also he said that surface temp is also vastly overrated because after the first few inches or feet the water is relatively unaffected by air temp fluctuations/increases. Water temps at say 10,20,30+ feet remain the same temp even though there has been a few days of warm weather.

I'm the same way. I watched a good portion of the live coverage and to be honest, I don't know how much of the production show on ESPN I'll watch. I know they'll just gloss over the fine detail technique stuff for the interviews and fish catches which means I probably won't learn anything new and they'll spend most of the time trying to build drama that isn't there.

1. I hate Nascar

2. I would think the 2nd week of March would be best which shouldn't conflict with any of the big circuts because they all will work with each other to try and get as many top anglers in their tournaments instead of having schedule conflicts. Also, it would keep all the anglers in tournament mode looking forward to the next week of tournaments instead of having a few weeks to mourn over a loss or having a party hang-over.

3. The weigh-ins take way to long, it should always be about the anglers and them thanking their sponsors not all the other stuff.

4. The classic was a very good fishing tournament, after watching the first 2 days of live coverage the anglers were all doing different things but they were also fishing to their strengths. Most of us tournament fisherman when we fish are looking for 6-7 "right" bites in order to compete. If you are fishing for numbers and keepers it normally doesn't do anyone any good. I enjoyed watching them more when they were not catching anything so I could see if they would try something else, make a move and continue running their pattern etc. We usually just see all of the good stuff on TV not the BORING adjustment or fishing part.

The trouble might be with ESPN and their core programming. If they held it in the fall (as in the good old days) it would run up against NCAA FB and NFL. Ever try to find something on an ESPN network that did not involve NCAA FB on a Saturday in October? Second week of March would be up against the beginning of that big March thing the Mizzou fans don't want to discuss (sorry Brett). Kind of think we are stuck with it in February, which for the sponsors conveniently coincides with the hot time to sell product.

I hope Duke is a #1 seed and loses to a #16 seed with all the ribbing and grief you are giving me over the Tigers. That is the only consolation I will accept this season after MIZZOU's joke of a campaign. I flipped the game on Saturday to see we were already down 20+ with 10+ min to go in the 2nd half to Vandy. I know this is Kimmy Anderson's first year but my God this is bad to where it wouldn't shock me if they canned him after one season.

Dave, I also agree that Feb. makes sense as does having it somewhere in the south. Texas, Florida, Arizon, Bama, Southern Cal, etc. Maybe every 5 years toss the northern or midwest guys a bone and have it there.

You know, KSU is on almost as bad of a recent run. Have lost something like 8 out of 10, I believe. He sure seems like a nice guy who might just be in a little over his boot tops in Div 1.

Yep. It was a feel good hire for MIZZOU with Anderson but now it appears he is just in over his head running with the big boys of Div.I. It's not like we are losing close ball games, they aren't even close. When things aren't even competitive after tip off time to step back and analyze exactly what is the problem (besides glaring lack of talent).

KVD made excellent points. Ish Monroe, and I really kind of like the guy, stunk it up pretty bad. He would be doing this or that if he were one of the top anglers in contention. Probably the reason he was working the sponsors booths.

Zona made a poor point in saying that the fish do not move on Table Rock or Grand, once you find them they stay for the entire length of the derby. Could not be further from the truth when speaking about the Rock. Fish live in the lake here regardless of which of the 3 you are fishing for. They move freely and are most always in transit. Table Rock really fishes a lot like Hartwell at this time of the year, with exception of the Blue Backs. Also for us to fish open gravel is an absolute key, and is one of the best patterns on the lake fishing our long clean runnouts.

I did really watch a ton of it, mostly cause its to cold to do anything else and it was pretty educational. Especially the live fishing. That was live fishing, these guys are not getting a bite every 5 minutes. Just loved it.

Not often, but at times Clients will have seen tournament results for our lakes and are really excited about coming fishing and catching all those fish and all that weight. Most often on a guide trip, that just does not happen. First it is very hard for people to fish as slow as is necessary and it is also not tournament fishing.

Most often you are on the water for no more than 4 hrs. and most of the time it is closer to 3 and a half. Teaching folks how to use the equipment and present baits in proper techniques to afford the bites takes time. It is for us much easer to get folks bit on fish that are not 4 pounds but to take people to locations where they can get multiple bites from smaller fish that are in much greater numbers and are way more eager to nip at presentations that might need a bit of refining.

These guys were fishing for 8 bites a day. Not 8 fish, but 8 bites in an 8 hr. day. Usually people that don't get to fish much need to get 8 bites to catch one fish.

Good example was Ashley stating that the fish kept "Ping, Ponging" the bait around before one would load on it. Kiss of death in the guide business there would be so much hook setting and jerking that the bait would be airborne more than it would be in the water

Really good stuff on the water, and don't know the answer to the ice, but I would think a week could help.

I learn much more from watching them NOT catching fish. How they cast, how they work the bait, where they are in relation to the bank or other structure. Hell, watching Randy throw that crankbait around that bridge was cool. I've had people say, "how in the hell do you sit there and watch people play poker on TV", kind of the same deal, you get to see all the little things that matter. Much more interesting to me, hopefully the TV producers catch onto it.

Anyone notice yesterday afternoon Tackle Warehouse had a "fish head spin" as their featured new product on their home page? It's already sold out and on back order til mid March. Strike King, Lucky Craft, Rapala and other big lure companies have to be very disappointed that their baits didn't get much exposure and were beat out by an old road runner with a bigger hook, blade and head.
