Alex Heitman Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Thanks for the color recommendation guys. Quillback you are right. I can see I need about 20 more color options in my arsenal and at least 5 baits in each color which adds up to about $100,000 haha
Quillback Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 "Kossori shad" is a new color Megabass came out with, kind of a bluish ghost color with a light chartreuse stripe. I have caught a couple of bass on it. Looks really good. Sorry that I brought another color into the discussion, LOL.
Sore Thumbs Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Simplify. Get something gold, something translucent,Something shad like and something brighter for stained water. That will cover it all. Color is in the eye of the beholder. No right or wrong color. Dewayne French and Champ188 2
abkeenan Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Cheating on the McSticks Alex? The SPRO God's will not like this.
Alex Heitman Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Abkeenan I know I'm in trouble with the spro gods haha. I actually prefer the mcstick over the megabass about 80% of the time. The spro bait is way more durable and the paint job doesn't wear as much. The thing about megabass is I really like their colors. Spro has some great colors but megabass has more to choose from. I'm thinking about getting some mcstick blanks if I can find some and having them painted.
Champ188 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Alex, I challenge you to pick up a Luck-E-Strike RC STX and throw it a few minutes, then follow with a Megabass Vision 110. If you can detect an actual difference in the way they throw, dive, suspend, wiggle, etc., then by all means buy the one that you are most comfortable with. Heck, do that anyway. But at around $8 each, as compared to $25 for the Megabass, I suggest to you it's worth a try. Color choices are decent, but you can always do as you mentioned with the McSticks and send them off to be painted however you want them.
Sore Thumbs Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Haven't tried Luck E Strike yet cuz someone on this forum keeps buying out the good color:-). Really become a fan of the McStick. I use megabass and spro now. Skirmish baits has a Greg Bohannan series of jerkbait too. There is a color called white tail that they can't keep in stock. Also have custom crankbaits as well. Dwain Batey is painting them.
mjk86 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Love RC STX....they flat work....although i have no comparison to the megabass baits as ive never fished a real one, but at 8$ a pop im not scared to fish with them. Im pretty sure we all over think color....its a minnow bait, buy one that looks like a minnow. 20 people and 20 "best" colors. Personally i always use baits with just a thouch of purple....so clearly those are the best haha. Use your favorite, im willing to bet thats the color that will work best for you. Megabass does have awesome paint jobs, i bet all of the colors you currently have will work great. *T* and Champ188 2
Champ188 Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 +1 on the touch of purple. The blue-ish purple back found on some of the Megabass and RC STX baits is something I am confident sometimes helps on the White River lakes. Beyond that, I like a touch of chartreuse on dark days or in stained water, but mjk86 is dead-on right -- it's a minnow/shad bait, keep your colors close to that and you'll catch 'em.
