Moswimb8slinger Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 Mixed timber, didn't catch anything off of the wood. Gotta check for prices but yes a replica may be in order. I did fish the timbers both pole and cedars, with jigs and 5 inch Megabass spark shad rigged weedless on a weightless ewg, didn't get bit on anything. I do use the S-waver (168's or 200) as a search bait because the bass will "follow" them, but i ended up fishing more ledges, boulders and chunk rock banks with it. And thats the areas i got bit.
bluebasser86 Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Great looking fish! Sounds like you had a similar experience with fish actually preferring the big bait to standard offerings that I had a couple times this winter. My last really good day they wouldn't hardly touch the normal baits, but they were smashing a 175 Slide Swimmer. It was a weird bite also, kind of like a jerkbait bite with a lot of them, although I had some try to take the rod from me too.
Moswimb8slinger Posted March 18, 2015 Author Posted March 18, 2015 The keeper K i caught definitely let me know his intentions, but the big girl was a very soft bite. I do have to say, of all the Kentucky's I've caught throwing the bigger baits, every one of them intended to kill it. Always it hitting hard, sometimes missing the bait.

I feel like smallies and spots do that. Come up and violently smash a bait. Largemouth I feel like they just slurp it and casually swim off with it.

I'm convinced the brown fish are like cats, and like to play with their kills. bs1827 and Dewayne French 2

mjk86 Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Ive thought this with lots of predator fish.....they play chase like a cat chasing a sring on the ground. Crouch up....get excited....then pounce. Lol when I was little I used to "fish" for my cats with a ball n string tied to a plastic rod. In fact when im pulling a lure through the water im picturing one or more curious playful fish eyeballing it occasionally swiping and batting at it.

I saw a video (I think it was Hook & Look) where several smallies were going after a crayfish, they'd knock it around trying to avoid the claws, it went on for about a minute until one of them was able to come in from behind and eat it.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Yep. The more I fish for them, the more I think of brownies as cats. Largemouth like to eat, spots are crazy, and brown fish like to kill stuff. Lot of that comes from catching them on the little rig, and how they react to it.
