Members austin14 Posted April 3, 2015 Members Posted April 3, 2015 I paint wiggle warts a lot and I heard If you take the thin plastic (like the hot wheels package type) you can heat them up over the bait and take a vacuum and suck it down to take the lure shape, has anybody tried that before?
5bites Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Yes you can and I do. I use stencil plastic from hobby lobby and I bought some from predator baits too. Ebay has it as well.

Guest Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Fading the crawdad stencil is no easy task. I tried that method but haven't refined it yet. I'm still using the ebay stancils & shooting createx thru the plastic. BTW, plasti dip failed the test. It looks like Tarzan but plays like Jane.
Kee sims Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 Those look good ! I'm itchin to get started.
BilletHead Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Kee, I know Ace Hardware carries Devcon 30 min. The ones I have been in in Clinton, Joplin and Springfield have it. Do you have an Ace dealer in Nixa? Might check there. Lvn2Fish Posted April 4, 2015 Posted April 4, 2015 Here are of few of my best pointers. Always , always screen your paint. You can buy a paint filter at harbor frieght for really cheap. I remove the mesh screen from the cone filter and thread it into the cap of a small paint bottle bought from hobby lobby. This will help you stay consistent with your spray. Second, I would buy an inline moisture trap. For the first coupe of years my paint was running and cratering really bad. This fixed that problem almost entirely. Cleanliness is so so important. Take time after and sometimes in the middle of your paint to clean your brush. Learning how to disassemble and reassemble your brush is imperative. This thread is so awesome I even learned a lot by reading this. Thank you to everyone for sharing, what is at times, really hard information to find. As for the clear coat I am using the same as everyone else the Devcon 30 min 2 ton. One of the things that has helped me get that glass finish is a heat gun to heat up the epoxy before brushing it on. It really thins it down and makes is so nice to work with. This will help you not have the problem of the epoxy building up in hook eyes. Also when you've put your lures in your drying wheel hit them with a few bursts of heat from the heat gun, this will bring any air bubbles to the top and they will naturally pop. You're left with a crystal clear top coat.
