Summer moving water smallies is a top water game. Usually have 5 rods in the canoe. Walker, buzzer, fly rod popper, fluke rod, & a jig rod. Better fish usually hit on or near the top, or on the bottom. Dinks own the middle, mostly.

That's why they shine in the summer, Ned on the bottom or finesse jigs. both of which I can swim when the fish get real aggressive.

My 2 topwaters:

cotton cordell crazy shad, single prop (grasshopper color)

White 3/8 to 1/2oz buzzbait, inline or standard bend.

I'm going to tinker with a Bomber Long a when those buzzbait fish get active in June.

Ned rig + Go Pro + bluegrass music = hours of 12" smallie fun.

If you want to catch a bigger (18" and above), smallie on an Ozark stream, put away your ned rig. Simple as that.

Now don't go dissing the Ned in front of this elite group of fisherman.

A couple of these boys are hawking Ned components.

They got to ride this like the banjo minnow.

I'm not making a dime on anything.

If folks don't want to use it, that's fine.

I'm trying to help people out.

Just like you enjoy stirring the pot.

Your post about guiding walleye was more of a free advertisement if anything.

But it's all good, I can take my banjo minnows & beat your Dance N Eels anyday.

I actually used to catch a lot of fish on the banjo minnow, the 006 version... :beaten:

My parents actually bought me a banjo minnow kit for Christmas several years ago along with another kit for a lure called the button eye minnow. I never had luck with any of them so i gave them to a friend of mine and he swears by them both lol That being said the Ned rig like many finesse applications can and will catch a big bass but much like many other finesse set ups you will def. be catching a lot of the smaller fish. To some people who just enjoy catching smallies that's perfect. In the end the fishermen will use what works best for him and fits his style. I personally dont fish the Ned rig at all but who knows maybe i will some day.

I catch better average size fish with a ned than with a tube. Just saying........ maybe learn how to fish the ned and you will catch better fish. (I just had to say that, feeling like a prick with this cold front;) )

I enjoy catching fish. 1 fish is better than no fish. I enjoy every fish that I pull out of the water. I go "fishing" but I guess a couple of you go "Big Fishing" , and that is fine by me. I am not keeping 99.9% of what I catch, so I really don't need the biggest fish. Don't get me wrong, I would rather catch larger fish, but I only get to fish about 4 times/ year so I cherish whatever I catch. Once the kids are grown or old enough to tie hooks, cast, pull their own snags, I will be able to guff about only catching the elites. But until then, I will be satisfied by whatever tugs.
