dtrs5kprs Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I enjoy catching fish. 1 fish is better than no fish. I enjoy every fish that I pull out of the water. I go "fishing" but I guess a couple of you go "Big Fishing" , and that is fine by me. I am not keeping 99.9% of what I catch, so I really don't need the biggest fish. Don't get me wrong, I would rather catch larger fish, but I only get to fish about 4 times/ year so I cherish whatever I catch. Once the kids are grown or old enough to tie hooks, cast, pull their own snags, I will be able to guff about only catching the elites. But until then, I will be satisfied by whatever tugs. Right on. I fish to catch fish, regardless of size or species, and more is better. On the tube deal...I fished a tube in front of my son last summer while he fished a Ned. Bitsy tube. It wasn't close. He had me by probably six to one, mostly 14" brown fish with some keepers. That was why I threw the tube instead, did not want to seine them up in front of him.
Smallieguy87 Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 And i actually do carry some beetle spins lol
Chief Grey Bear Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 And i actually do carry some beetle spins lol My son uses the 8th ounce size and does very well on the rivers. I felt nostalgic on one trip last year and I bought one the old green with black stripes and black head. I used it on one trip and it actually caught the biggest fish of the trip! There's absolutely nothing wrong with Beetle Spins! There's absolutely nothing wrong with Beetle Spins! Glad i'm not the only one who throws them every now and then. I usually have luck with the yellow and black in 1/8oz. The first time i took my wife fishing i tied a beetle spin on for her and she had a blast catching google eye. I also carry some of the older terminator inline spinners that Bill Dance used to promote. I think i've caught more catfish on those then bass lol
Guest Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Speaking of beetle spins, they have caught tons of bass in small waters. I like to modify them by upgrading the crane swivel to a ball bearing swivel & replacing the body with a bobby garland or a half tiny brush hog.
Smalliebigs Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 I have fished the "Ned" recently and as some have stated it does tend to catch what seems like the smaller fish in the room......but, I have been experimenting with some other baits on the Ned head and these baits I have found will always catch bigger fish on average than the Zinker cut in half. 1)http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Megabass_Honjikomi_Cattle_Tongue_6pk/descpage-MBHCT.html cut about an inch off of the front and wow this will get you bigger fish and I'm not sure why?? If you would like a cheaper alternative go with the http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/GrandeBass_Honcho_8pk/descpage-GRDBHON.html#multiview or the http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Big_Bite_Baits_Stick_Tail_8pk/descpage-BBBSTTL.html#multiview I'm also rigging these a little longer than the traditional Ned.....about a five inch worm, yes it's more costly but, that's not an issue for me. I also have had more bigger bass eat these on the Ned http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Big_Bite_Baits_Jeff_Kriet_-_Squirrel_Tail_Worm_10pk/descpage-BBBSQTW.html#multiview I use the whole 4.5 inch version. staying with Big Bite these also have picked bigger fish and I don't know why?? http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Big_Bite_Baits_Jeff_Kriet_-_Shaking_Squirrel_Worm/descpage-BBBSHSQ.html#multiview These are merely my opinion based on observations over the last 6 months of fishing......and yes I am a bait whore and I like to experiment. dtrs5kprs Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Interesting. At a guess that is just the bigger bait-bigger bite phenomenon. How are your numbers with those baits? I use the full length elaztech sticks on a shakey head as a change up. Have not seen it catch bigger fish in general, still a lot of 15"-18" fish, but the catch rate plummets.
Quillback Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 Some other baits that have worked for me over at the local warm-water lake: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Keitech_Live_Impact_Worm_10pk/descpage-KLI.html and http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Keitech_Sexy_Impact/descpage-KEISXIM.html
