dtrs5kprs Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Did anyone here used to swim a Fliptail lizard during spawning season on the flats? Man, bass come unglued over that thing. Still works great. So much easier to get a good hookset now that we have braid. It also worked very well in the fall, but you needed to fish it with a hybrid style with a mixture of lift/drop and swimming motion. Fished it kind of like a spook, around bushes in coves. Little, newly filled lakes in Iowa that were just like forests. My KU fan was pretty much resigned to it. They were just off this year. Quite a final four in terms of pedigrees. Ham 1
fishingaddiction Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Ham, I might give that lizard a swim this spring on spawning banks attached to a swing head. OldMillRoad 1 Born to Fish. Forced to Work.
Champ188 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 A buddy down here actually located some of the old Fliptails on the internet a couple of years ago. Someone had the molds (or had cast their own molds) and was making them. Can't recall the website now but I bet you could google it.
Ham Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 The Jaw Tecs were larger than the old Flip Tails, but worked fine. My Dad wanted only the old ~ 6 inch ones. He poured his own when they were dced. FYI Land Big Fish shows them in stock. Absolutely drives fish on beds crazy. Super Dave new lakes with dying timber were the best. When Bob Sandlin in Tx was still filling up, My Goodness ! Ham Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 The swing head deal may be great, but we fished ours like a real slow Sluggo retrieve. Very visual deal. Pretty much The fishing equivalent of smoking crack. abkeenan 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

When Bob Sandlin in Tx was still filling up, My Goodness ! Yep on all. They started making Fliptails again a few years ago. First worms I ever bought were Fliptails-a 100ct bag of blue. So stiff you could have tied up dogs with them. The old worms, that is. Newer ones seem a bit softer. Ham 1
Champ188 Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 So stiff you could have tied up dogs with them. Now that's funny. And of course they had to be blue. LOL
Ham Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Growing up, I always reached for the blue worms first. I can't remember the last time I used a blue worm. Likely, close to 20 years ago. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
