Mixer what type of areas are we using that spook in? Backs of coves? Secondary points with gravel? I saw where the top water bite could get good in the mornings...I was thinking the naked buzz bait with a split tail fluke or something as well.

I'm not gonna say the wart won't be the deal in 10 days, but I sure wouldn't leave the ramp without a spook tied on...

And a redfin. Sometimes it will work in a little cooler water than the spook. It is a big fish bait as well.

If it warms up and clears up it is likely to be a plastic fest...split shot fish doc, smoke grubs, shakey heads, swing head and whatever. And the little rig which shall not be named.

The spook can be used anywhere from 80' of water throwing it at schooling fish, to bluff end points with trees, to flat secondary points, to the very backs of pockets. It's just a feel thing for me. The spook and the Redfin are just good big fish baits in the spring. I use topwater a lot as a search bait, that also happens to be a great big fish bait.

going to make that long run all the way to owl creek this year. .

I talked to someone yesterday who tried to get back into Owl creek (I assume you mean the Owl creek off the White river channel). He told me it is full of floating timber and he could not get back in it. I did not go back there myself, but that's what I was told by a reliable source. Just something you might want to check out yourself beforehand if you are planning on fishing it tourney day.

Ned rig ? lol

You varmint, you.

You don't want to go to Owl for a derby. Vast majority of them are won about 5 miles either side of the Kimberling City bridge, and maybe about halfway up the James. Clear water = better average size, and some very big, old fish. West of Baxter it becomes more of a numbers deal.

You might fix up an A-rig with a Wart (pre-Rap, of course), Spook and Redfin as the three "live" baits. You can only have one treble on each of them, though, so better use the Daichi Death Trap or something similar.

Teaser options would include the Varmint in various colors and sizes ranging from 3/4 ounce down to 1/1,000 ounce, grubs, Fish Doctors, Centipedes, Flukes, Brush Hogs, etc.
