dtrs5kprs Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I've been fishing it wrong Lol I think a lot of us did. I tried to treat it like a shakey/football/jika hybrid at first. Was hard to imagine they would eat something bopping along like that in clear water.
dtrs5kprs Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Pepe, I assure you Dave meant no disrespect. Even the best of the crank bait fishermen back in the 80's called them idiot baits, and the term kind of morphed from there to apply to pretty much any winding-type lure. If anyone was gonna take offense it would be me ... I'm far more of a winder than a dragger. Yep. Sorry if anyone had not heard the term before. Guess it is my age showing, though I am at the lower end of that cohort. Idiot baits, or baits that can be thrown out and reeled back with the bait doing the bulk of the work...swim grub, soft swimbait, crankbaits, bladed jig, traps, etc. Most of those can be made better by someone who is not just chunking and winding, but every so often your brother in law will work you over with one tied to a Zebco 33 for no clear reason. Macsimus Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Man that's a fine report. Indeed. Thanks Bill. Footnote: I need to stop reading these reports while I'm trying to work. Makes it extremely difficult to concentrate. Dewayne French and fishingaddiction 2 "There was a time that I didn't fish, but I cannot remember it."

Members sself1 Posted April 8, 2015 Members Posted April 8, 2015 Do most of you guys throw it on 12lb test like Bill? I would think you could get away with a little heavier being a faster moving bait, but I don't fish clear water often, so who knows. Do you have any issues dragging that 12lb along the bottom?
Ham Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 After I get a lobotomy, I plan on dragging mine around on 15 lb Abraz X. Right now I am so over thinking the bait that I rarely get bit with it. Champ188 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

Davis said he was throwing it on 17# last year. Think I have read about Biffle using 15. I throw mine on 15# Seaguar, and a 7' rod I sometimes use for Carolina rigging. Seems to work OK, when I bother with it. It is one of those deals I use to rest things when I start to get spinning rod wrist.
Ham Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Is this thing a decent search bait that I can fish fast to locate some decent fish and then lock down on the area and pick it clean with other baits? Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
gitnby Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 a 5" Chompers twin-tail Grub has worked for me on the wobblehead. (I like the Gr Pumpkin/Purple Flake) Don't be afraid to pitch it right up against a bluff wall or a steep cut or pocket. Particularly a bluff end or cut adjacent to a mixed rock or pea gravel area. After it falls, and you feel it hit the first level, then, as Bill said, just slowly wind it back to the boat and let it bounce along the shelves. With the goofy weather lately, and especially if they're pulling the lake down, those bluffs are a nice little hangout for the pre-spawners.
