I got a wild hair and called my Dad, we decided to run down and fish for the day. He has been preoccupied with a lot going on in his life the last several years and hasn't had time to get on the water much. So I set him up with a varmint and away we went.

He caught several on the little rig and I did as well, not so much on size. A lot of Spots in the 13- 15 inch range. I changed over to a shakey head and it was on, bigger fish and a better bite. I rigged one up for him and he started smashing them as well. We stopped counting after 40.

The fish were really staged on secondary points, we stuck a few in the pockets but quickly determined that the concentrations of fish were definitely on the points leading into the spawning pockets. With little wind and high skies the fish were pulled out a bit. 10-30 FOW.

The wind picked up in the afternoon, we fished around our dock and I picked up a few on the jerker before we called it a day and put the boat on the lift. He was thrilled with our trip and I was very happy for him as well.

I had a HP180 with a Yammy 130 HP. I bet you boat fishes very well. Good on you for getting you Dad out on the water. You're both better off for having done so.

Thanks for the kind words, Ham. My dad had me on this lake fishing from the time I was 3, 41 years ago. I am very fortunate to have spent a good part of my life down here with family and friends. I love the way the boat fishes, huge front deck. The only drawback is the wind, I miss my old glass boat when its howling.

Nice work taking your dad out. I'm in the same boat so speak. Fished TR since I was 4, dad lives on the lake, boat on a lift, but seldom if ever goes out by himself as a 73 year old. I used to fish a lot of tournaments and enjoyed them, but nothing like taking dad and my kids out now. Glad you had a great day. Sometimes you just need to tell the boss you aren't coming in and take a mental health day. No regrets. I bet we live longer if we take the time. Nicely done. FYI, I've been doing better on bigger fish with a scrounger head in 15'-20'.

It's nice to tow the Aluminum down the road, but glass just doesn't get blown around the wat a metal boat does. I also felt like my aluminum boat didn't punch thru waves so much as want to ramp off of them.

It is fair to say that I can comfortably run stuff in the BassCat at 65 MPH that weren't gonna be fun at much speed in my G3.

Having said that, I loved my G3 and have so many fun time in it. I caught a ton of fish all over the place. Great boat. The Bear trailer really sucked, but the boat was first rate.

Yes, I will agree on the trailer. I have made so many upgrades on that thing that they should be paying me to manufacture them. I have been eye balling a couple boats lately, I am planning on trying to sell it this winter.

Great job taking your dad. Wish mine would still go but he just doesn't enjoy like he used to. Still does lots of yard work and such that he enjoys more, so whatever keeps him happy and active at 86.

Cute purse you have sitting on the front deck. Was it on sale and where can I snag one? LOL

Must have been great fishing with your Dad. Keep taking him out as long as he enjoys it, the memories will stay with you for ever. Jeff, great report, pics and good catching!
