Dock Owners

my live box does both, sinks and has a latch. I welded mine together out of 3/4 in steel Angels. It is suspended by pully and steel cable system ,with a wench.

I have watch a blue heron take fish out of a box of a neighbors. It about floored me when that bird reached down in the stall and just lifted lid with its beak and layed it to the side, just like anyone else might.

Had our basket sunk about 3 feet a couple years ago. Lost 7 or 8 fish out of it. The remains were on top of the black floats under the dock. Only partially eaten. I am guessing otters but have never seen one. I will be setting up dshop on the fellers dock on Friday.

I have had this happen as well. Guy stopped mowing his lawn and came and told us to leave. The funny thing is it was his neighbors dock, there was no boat in it and we were casting into the empty slip. He said "come on guys, you know better than that" I asked him what he was talking about and kept fishing, I never get out of the boat on to someones dock, dont tie up, etc.. I know some guys have had chips on their boats from people casting close and would understand that would piss someone off. Not the case where we fish. I am sure the crappie have been caught from this dock for years. There are 1960's style seats mounted around the dock.

Just politely tell cranky dock owners that you have numbers on your boat for this very reason, if they have a problem with how you are fishing then they can call the law.

Do not bother conversing any further with them because it never ends well.

If/when the lawdogs contact you just tell them that if they have evidence that you did anything unlawful then you'd be happy to discuss it....Otherwise you haven't any reason to have to defend yourself.

Honestly I have had more positive contacts with dock owners than negative. Have had one guy nearly mug us so he could show picyures of a spoonbill he snagged, more than one tell us to "try that corner again" and end up with crappie. admittedly I am a little extra careful around docks and boats because i know how I would feel if someone was banging jigs off my gel coated boat.

Yeah usually folks are friendly...but there are exceptions.

Smacking boats with jigs is a no-no for more reasons than the obvious. Noise like that kills the bite.

I concur that 99% of the dock owners are extremely friendly. I don't care if someone puts their foot against our dock to keep their boat off.

I don't miss my lakefront home one bit. Keeping a dock and hoist maintained is a PIA !

Property is sure cheaper; anything on the lake is a bit pricy. Been looking for a couple years for the right spot to retire(good water, protected, ice free, good price, lower end, etc.) and have not found one that has everything I want. Have seen many beautiful spreads off the water, reasonable. I will say that I trailered over to Shawnee Bend last week and that's another nice ramp....
