Tell you whatever it is you just might have a real problem for yourselves amd the bussiness community surrounding the lake. That is about the most nasty thing I have ever seen. Imagin what is going on that you cannot see.

Man I think that is exactly what it is. I been kind of trying to look on the internet at fresh water bacteria etc that might cause that. Someone posted they see it on spawning areas. As I understand it a wound is how that stuff enters the flesh. I thiink it is something they need to report.

Clear water plus shallow fish on spawning beds ... could someone have shot this fish with a bow and failed to land it?

I guess the bowfishing deal could have happened but I don't think so. I do a fair amount of bowfishing myself and there wasn't any penetration or holes that were visible...just scales missing and that nasty mess. I guess it could have been a glancing blow?

Those fish might have escaped from a raccoon, bobcat or even a bald eagle. I have seen eagles pick up 3lb bass then drop them because they were too big to get back into flight. An eagle claw will cause a nasty wound and I have seen eagles get top water fish on a 90 degree day when I thought all the fish were down deep.

This is probably a more reasonable hypothesis than my bowfishing guess.

It is bite marks, most fish in the lake are predator fish, walleye, gar come to mind since they have teeth.

I have caught several sick looking fish this year. Some have been wounds from not being handled carefully, IE. ripped out mouth or jaws, but a few have had sores on them. These could be battle scars that don't heal right due to the bacteria in the water, who knows.
