Are we looking at two years in a row without a consistent grub bite? And if so, why?

Not that you couldn't catch some here and there in that span, just seems like all the fish have been on the bottom eating craws, even when you would have expected them to be spread out eating shad.[/quote

I wouldn't read much into me not getting bit on a grub, this is my first year fishing Table Rock since I was a kid, lakes in general for that matter, and only threw it for 20-30 minutes on windy points and against the brush...

Its not just you. Thirty minutes on a good windy point in May, with the gray skies, should have been plenty. COE running some water should have made it even better. Seems like the fish are just setting up differently.

That is the way to Hang in there Quill. I am a Ford truck man and darn proud of it!

Very nice outing Jtram. It has just been the year of the NED RIG, I think mainly because more are throwing the little rig and are catching good numbers. I caught some good fish on the grubin the early spring, but those fish were glued to the bottom looking up out to 20'. Had to get it on the bottom and reel very slowly to be effective. I haven't tossed it much lately.

I've caught grub fish at 10K, BSL, and Norfork. Wind blown flat points. Classic stuff, but it's tough to put down the Beetle grub w/o a spinner.

Ya I wonder if the grub bite has just disappeared cuz you fish it 20 min then pick up the ned? When ya got something that works so well like ned rigs its hard to try other stuff. Do you think the fish arec changing or the fishermen? I love daves jigs but have yet to have luck with ned rigs...dont use it enough. I use different jigs on em and they work great.

I wouldn't say they are suspending less, but they seem less focused on shad, at least until summer. Scrubbing a grub used to start up in March or so.

Last year using the Super Dave Smallie sampling technique, I was able to see several forage shifts. All the fish were barfing draws and then it shifted to shad, and lastly to young of the year bluegill.

Gentleman from OK told me they were spitting perch in April down there. That really surprised me.

For me last year, it was crawfish in April, shad in May, and YOY bluegill etc late May/early June.

This year I feel like I have barely fished at all.

I'd love to be on the water 4 days a week and have a more scientific records.
