When you get right down to it, the situation in the summer on these rivers is a lot like having a highway that goes from four lane to a narrow two lane with no shoulders, with no speed limit, that's full of sports cars, bicyclists, and little old ladies pushing shopping carts.

and toss in a bit (or more than a bit) of alcohol...

I have not had a lot of experience dealing with jet boats or their owners. That's because I got totally fed up with the rude attitude many of them had and just didn't go to that part of the river anymore. I have floated most of the Current and a lot of the other canoeable rivers in the Ozarks. And the problems I have had was due to the joy riders and tournament anglers. If I am wading and a guy in a jet boat cuts you off from the bank your fishing because he saw you catch a fish. it gets irritating. I have had this happen more than once the Current below Two Rivers, both times by tournament anglers.I love the rivers but the jet boaters make it hard for others to enjoy them.

Dang that blows!!!......sorry you encountered such stupid assholes but, I have met many paddlers on the river who are just as bad or worse than what you described.....I had to help a couple on the Black river back in the 90's from getting beat down by a group of paddlers. My point is there are douchebags on both sides.....anyone who would cut you off from the bank because you were catching fish is a real dick whether they are a paddler or a jet boater.

Yep, people suck. That's why all the best trips start at an empty access.

I don't consider myself thin skinned but rudeness on the rivers and lakes in this country seems to have gotten worse over the years. I too have seen some pretty obnoxious people in canoes, and don't want the jet boaters or all tournament fishermen to feel like I don,t understand that they have the right to use the water. We all have to try to get along better as the number and variety of ways people use the water increase.

I'll just say it...I hate jetboats on anything but the largest Ozark streams - and even then - good grief people, paddle or float or just forefeit the so-called need of flying up and down the river - the ONLY reasons are pure personal convenience and to use the river like an amusement park an its and other people's expense. If you can't slow down when passing other river users - that is you just "have" to stay on plane - then you shouldn't be there, period. There is a manners issue, but also just an incompatible use issue. Incompatible with intact riverbanks, any semblance of peace and quiet and - flame away folks - a large part of the sense of quiet contemplation and immersion in the experience by the boater. The river is in large part - for the vast majority of jet-boaters I see - a navigational joyride. Really not that much different than allowing ATVs on a trail at Hawn, Bell Mtn., or in the Tetons.

Well said!!!!!   Couldn't agree more.
