MOPanfisher Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 If the vast majority of anglers do not keepbass, whether, smallies, kentuckies, or largemouth, how would a slot limit provide larger fish? I would think the amount of prey base and growth rate is going to have far more effect on size/population than the length limit. Sac River Jim and blacknoseddace 2
5bites Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I'm with with Jim. I love spots. Very scrappy and very pretty fish. Sac River Jim 1

Aggressor1988long Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Im thinking there are tons in the 3-5 lb range. As we all know there are big bass but they are smart thats why they get big. Thats common knowledge among us anglers. They are there but I believe a guy has to figure out what they want and sometimes thats going back to old school baits. Thats why I go to flea-markets. I find alot of the old school stuff. Everyone fishes knew baits and the fish see them over and over , switch it up. Thats just my opinion, which everyone has there own.
Sac River Jim Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 i read a study from the arkansas game commission on the effects of high nitrate and phosphate counts in their water shed systems and what they did to correct the problem. they said high nitrate levels will suspress a fishes appetite slowing the growth process. i know Straw hat has posted nitrate levels for Stockton and he will know a whole more about what i'm talking about if he sees this post.
blacknoseddace Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 thanks for the great replies to my post. I now agree that a slot limit is not the answer. The guys on this forum know their stuff, for the most part. Sometimes I get bored with just bass fishing and that doesn't help my success rate. Lol! I'm waiting for the carp spawn to end so I can sight fish for them with a fly rod. Real excitement!
DADAKOTA Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Spots directly compete with small mouth. I'd rather have smallmouth personally.
Lvn2Fish Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Spotted bass are treated like trash when it takes one several years to reach keeper status. What you left with is a ton of short fish. Year after year they keep pilling up.
Sac River Jim Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 there is not a huge population of spots on stockton no matter what there growth rate is. i maybe catch one spot to every 50 large mouth, i like spotted bass they are fun to catch and i just like to fish i love to be on the water with friends.
