fishinwrench Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Curious, when a LEO gets killed while on duty is there no insurance payoff or social security payments for the family ? Every time an officer dies there are always huge fund raisers for the family as if they are suddenly left penniless, but when anyone else dies the family's just deal with it. Do Lawmen not have life insurance or pay social security like everyone else? Why do cop families require so much extra cash in order to deal with things after an unexpected death? My mom worked for the state and her insurance was outstanding. Are cops/troopers/county LEO's not privy to the same type coverage?
hoglaw Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 LEO death benefits would be the same as most any other state employee I would think. Social security widow's benefits, something from the state, and any accidental death/life insurance policy that the officer purchased. I don't think cops get the shaft any more than any other state employee, the community is just better about putting fundraisers together.
Ketchup Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 LEO's are in direct contact with the community, day in, day out, not your typical citizen, therefore, fundraisers for fallen LEO is a way for those that have been helped by the officer, to be given the chance to give back. Thats one reason, but i can list many more You anti-cop wrench? Kinda seems that way. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.

Ketchup Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 First, sorry to add my comments to a thread that wasnt about this. I seen a list terrier, but didnt read thru it, as it would have been easier to list the things that dont bother him. Ive been to, and have seen numerous times over the years where businesses "non law enforcement" have held fund raisers to help someone in need, including breast cancer "they have a whole month dedicated for this", and to see someone question a good deed by helping a police officer who was shot while on duty, just makes my ears ring. Maybe the world will go to craps, and ol' wrench will fence his place in to keep the thugs out when they come to take what he has, when there are no law enforcement to help him out of his jam. again, sorry to the OP. Flysmallie Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Just keep in mind that you have to walk in someone else's shoes before you really understand their judgment of things. Even though I knock heads with Wrench on this type of thing on a regular basis I also understand where he is coming from. I too have been critical of the amount of fundraisers for Pearson. It's not that I don't think he's deserving, but there are a whole lot of people out there that are deserving that we just completely ignore day after day. Most of them children. Where is the support for them? It sucks what happened to him though. jtram 1
Terrierman Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I'm of two minds about this. LEO have a job that most of us would never be able to put up with. Think about it, they deal with problems and problem people day in and day out. I would be fruit loops in less than a week. And the job is at least occasionally honest to pete dangerous. Maybe not as dangerous as managing a few guys like I do, or rebuilding boat motors like some other people do, but now and again a cop gets shot in the line of duty. I get that there are a lot of other deserving folks that don't get the publicity that LEO gets or a fireman or veteran who gets shot saving his platoon does or a lot of other stories that make good news. And that's too bad. But the fact that not everyone gets big press doesn't take away from what the person who does get the press did. Usually involves putting others first, even to the point of risking and occasionally losing your life over it. That's nothing to scoff at or belittle.
