Quillback Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I always kept it simple when visiting coastal NH or Maine. Where's the cheapest lobster? September is the best time, the tourist rush is over and the lobster is cheap. ness and rps 2
cnr Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I agree with most of this, but gotta disagree with rps taking issue with Gluten-free. Since I suffer from this allergy and any Gluten will make me sick I do appreciate when a menu lists the ingredients and the preparation of the food. Without the listing of Gluten-free there are many of us that can't eat out without the fear of severe intestinal distress.

Without the listing of Gluten-free there are many of us that can't eat out without the fear of severe intestinal distress. Fair enough. However, my point was that the menu guy had gone too far. They served parsnip bread - no gluten, but so sweet and such a weak crumb that it was, at best, a tea cake.
MOPanfisher Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I feel for you rps. When traveling I have tried to eat at the reccomended eateries by the locals. Have had some fabulous and some of the worst experiences that way. Oddly over all the best ones have been the worst looking dives around, they smell like a fish market on a hot day have the best food and friendliest staff, but sometime they are just dives. Ya buys you ticket and ya takes your chances. That's why it's fun. Flysmallie and ness 2
ness Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I'd be all over the seafood if I was up there. And, I agree with Quill that simple is usually best. Especially when it was swimming that morning. John
snagged in outlet 3 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I travel a little bit for work and I order off the menu using the drive by method. If I drive by cows in the area, I eat cows. If I smell the ocean, I eat fish. When in doubt, pork rules. Pete wuteversbitin424 1
Mitch f Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Love watching Anthony Bourdain, many times when he bites into a pork dish, He says "Suck on this, Paul McCartney" "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
XP 590 Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 The choices included ginger whipped carrots, edamame and zucchini fries, quinoa littered everywhere, whipped Peruvian purple potatoes, and more than one entree labeled gluten free. That's hilarious. Allow me to carry on your rant. Don't forget "hand agitated, Baltic Sea Foam"! From that TV commercial And don't even get me started on KALE. I don't care what they do to it, you can't convince me it belongs anywhere besides lining the underside of a salad bar. Amazing how it made it from underneath the salad bowls INTO the salad bowls. Kale must have one hell of a PR firm or agent working for it. Probably the Kale lobby at work. Then of course the top two annoying food trends of the recent past: 1) Sriracha----which I've been using for over 20 years, making me infinitely cooler than all the Johnny Come Latelys jumping on the Sriracha bandwagon. 2).......then we put a Sunny Side Up EGG on it! I'm not even touching that one. Next up?
