Open Carry

Recommended Posts

I personally don't have much use/need for open carry. If I was wanting to carry all the time I would prefer concealed carry, get the permit etc. IF I become the one in a million who would have to use a firearm in self defense I would prefer to keep my posession of it as low key as possible until it was needed. If I expected to need a firearm I wouldn't be carrying concealed I would be carrying a rifle.

I also think carrying openly is asking to be contacted by LE. Yes it is your right, yes it is legal (except where it isn't), yes you could also be a wannabe mass murderer simply walking down the street as well. If you do carry simple respect when questioned by LE is a must, lest it make all gun owners look like goofus's and we don't need any help with that.

Dont need to carry a gun on me, i would most certainly not be the hero, id be running away screaming. Plus I figure when the ish hits the fan I could always just pillage one of the dead corpses for their gun/ammo If i had too.

Fully aware of all above, as well as how stupid it looks walking around with a S&W model 10 on each hip, also well aware that it CAN look bad in the wrong setting. Refer to original post, im not "that guy" and don't plan to be.

Jtram I understand and have mostly the same views. I only have it on me when my wife and kids are with me and its very concealed. I do not carry alone simply because I dont really care what situation I run in to by myself. the thing with open carry in my eyes is that it draws attention to you and your family...possibly making you a target. Put yourself in the mind of a criminal. If you were going to hold up a store or rob an establishment you are going to take out the immediate threat so you are successful. The bystander with the gun on the hip is the first one going down. Just my thoughts friend, I have no disagreements with the law of open carry I just wont do it.

Jtram, no need to bristle up, nobody even suggested you were "that guy". you asked for conversation well here it is.

There was no bristle on my end?????

The thing about it is if you pull the trigger. Then it gets very complicated. You got about a 50/ 50 chance of coming out on the short end of the stick. Unless it is clearly home invasion. That is if your fast enough. And the other person does not kill you and part of your family first. I can see a lot of ways that might happen. Especially if you do not know he has a gun.

A nice short 12ga. pump would be my choice. That might suck for friendly fire victims in a crowded place but hey the prerogative is for ME to survive, right?

I'll be with wrench. I'll have Katniss with me so watch out for those arrows. :have-a-nice-day:
