#1) dwi related cars wrecks kill a lot of people and innocent drivers. But hey, some of you think, you know it's ok to have a couple and drive around. Outlaw cars and drinking? Also for the ones that think hey it's ok to have a couple and drive around...go do a death notification at about 3 in the morning resulting from a dui crash.

#2)In my endeavors I've worked a lot more stabbings than shootings..outlaw knives?

#3)Monday quarterbacking someone's decision to act in a milli second situation is irresponsible. Unless you've been there.

#4)I'm am guessing and pretty sure there are only a few of us that have been in a struggle that could be possibly classified as life or death. don't try to make assumptions or decisions on what they should or shouldn't do, again, unless you have been in the situation and can provide unique insight.

Carrying 24/7 365.. A lot of Leo's have to as it is departmental policy...Many also have something in policy about "cowardice".

Oh Al, you don't always have the luxury of trying to determine what the bad guys are going to do.

But according to the reports, in this instance the guy DID have the opportunity, and in my opinion made more than one poor decision. And you're making my point in a way...none of us who have not been in a life or death struggle can possibly predict how we would or should react. Some may make good decisions and handle the situation efficiently. Lots won't. And carrying a gun makes the potential for bad decisions a whole lot more dangerous.

A few other points...I have been in a lot of different places in St. Louis, but I'm smart enough not to go to the really bad places, or to be in questionable places after dark. I have never encountered a situation in St. Louis where I felt I was in potential danger. If you have to live or work in the questionable areas, I can understand carrying, but the average visitor to the city who is going there for the kind of things that most visitors go there for should almost never get into a dangerous situation.

I have been in a few places and situations where I got that little tingly feeling that something wasn't quite right, and that I'd better start paying real close attention to what's going on around me, and in those cases I started using Gavin's advice...look around for something that could be used as a weapon and look for escape routes. Nothing ever came of it, but I often make some contingency plans when there is the slightest possibility of something bad happening.

Finally...I think I've made it fairly clear that I'm against a lot of gun control laws, and that I'm happy with the Second Amendment. I think the anti-gun folks are being unrealistic. But other than that and a few other issues, I'd classify myself as liberal, and I rather resent the blanket use by some here of "liberal" as an insult. That's one of the things that scares me the most about the way this country has gotten--to all too many people (no matter what their political persuasion) the other side is either retarded or evil. Issues aren't discussed, they are just excuses to call the other guy names, and anybody who isn't on your side is the enemy. Compromise and cooperation are dirty words. Hey, neither side has cornered the market on patriotism, intelligence, or morality, and absolutely nothing good ever comes of villifying those with whom you disagree.

I've been in places a lot worse than St. Louis. Still did not and don't feel the need to carry a gun, then or now. It takes a certain kind of guy and I ain't him and have only met a couple who were in my lifetime.

Wow. Fishin must be slow. I carry always, wife carries always. If you don't why get a cc permit. 3 times a month we go to the range. I worked for the city of aurora co. The theater he pick was no guns, 4 theaters closer allowed wpns. Since 1950 there have only been two mass shootings were guns were allowed. I spent 20 years in the military and some time as a deputy sheriff. I believe all should receive the training and apply for a permit. I don't want to wait 15 min for the police. Now it's time to go fishin. I bet 99% of cc people are very careful, why, I don't want to lose that privilege. And the record of cc folks is pretty good.

Gander Mountain is just pandering to the guys that put their lives on the line to help the ones that prefer not to help themselves. Terrible ad, shame on them.

I found the ad comical. And pandering. Gander Mtn. marketing professionals have your segment dialed in to a tee, but its significantly larger than the very very small percentage of law enforcement, military, or firefighters (really, firefighters?) who while reading the newspaper, and spotting such an ad, would feel compelled to shop for such "tactical necessities" above and beyond what their employer might provide.

I'm not ever going to quit making fun of these people. TACTICAL NECESSITIES!!!! Honey, I'm going up to Gander to get me some more tactical necessities. Need anything? AA batteries, some Jim Beam?
