Sore Thumbs Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 Give Falcon a few years and it will be on fire again for sure. I'm scared enough going to Falcon. No way I go south of the border right now. Too many people getting killed or missing in that area of Mexico huntest 1
Champ188 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I'm with you, Thumbs. Too many fish to be caught here and up north.
Sam Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 "There are some better lakes south of the border but I'm not going back down there. It was a scary place when I went and is much worse now." ----------------------------------------- My dad and I camped for a week on a sandbar of the river that runs out of Lake Vincente Guerrero. straight south of McAllen, TX, back in the 1970's. That was some of the best fishing I've ever had in my life - we were catching 8 lb. bass from the lake and 1 lb. Rio Grande Perch from the river. It's a great memory, but camping there now would probably get a gringo killed.
fishinwrench Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 A customer of mine goes every February, he's never mentioned having any problems. They didn't do all that great this last time though.
Flysmallie Posted July 24, 2015 Posted July 24, 2015 A m-16 with the rods would give all comfort. Probably on Falcon but not further south. We went to Cuchillo close to China, Mexico. It was one of the coolest places I've ever been. Four very white rednecks that couldn't speak a bit of Spanish and a whole town of Mexicans that couldn't speak English. But they were extremely nice and fixed us some wonderful meals. I thought I knew what Mexican food was before that. Not even close. We caught fish like crazy. Fishing an old flooded pond I caught 22 fish on 22 casts. It was just crazy. And both my uncle and I caught our first double digit fish. The first day we were there I caught a 5.5 and the backed it up with one right at 7 on the next cast. It was the only time that I was pretty tired of reeling them in. It was rough when we were there, thing 2005, but I could be off. Check points with armed guards everywhere. They didn't speak English either. And once you would get a couple hundred yards down the highway would be a sandbag bunker with a couple of guys and a 50 cal. I surprised we ever made it back. My dad's old buddy still lives on Falcon and says that China is now a cartel town. And you never know when the lake will be open. It's too bad that they can't or won't control that country any better than that. I'd love to go back and just hang out in that little town.
Sore Thumbs Posted July 24, 2015 Author Posted July 24, 2015 No fish is worth the risk down there right now. Champ188 1
