I just found out from JoeD yesterday that Jimmy Walker has passed. Jimmy was an icon on Crooked creek and the go to guy for shuttles and information. He was always very helpful, friendly, and willing to bend your ear for a little while. Many times we stood ready to launch our canoe while Jimmy quietly regaled us with advice, wisdom and local stories. He will be missed.

Never got to meet him other than a return phone call a few years ago. I had tried to call him on a Sunday morning for a shuttle but he was at church (I had found another shuttle by the time he returned my call). Seemed a good fella. My thoughts and prayers.

He was a good man. I hate to hear of his demise. Thanks for posting this though.

Used him a few times to shuttle us a couple years ago. He was full of information and kept talking until we floated away. We stopped by one morning just to ask about the creek and what was working and he gave us all kind of information, even though we didn't need him to shuttle us that day. Good man, he will be missed for all his wisdom on CC.

Great picture Joe. I spend so much of my day having to talk to people and argue with folks that by the end of it I just don't want to talk to anyone, and cut just about every phone call off short. I swear I never had a phone call with that guy that lasted less than 10 minutes, even if I was just calling to let him know I'd be out on Saturday morning. He would always make the shuttle work and hardly charged anything for it. He'd keep my truck overnight at his place just to make sure no one broke into it at the take-out when I did overnighters. He even picked up beer for us at one point when we'd have had to run to Payat to get it. I didn't see him since last year, and never saw or spoke to him while his health was failing. All I knew about it was what you posted.

But man, what a neat guy. There's a pretty good size group of us that will always associate him with that part of the world.

Funny you should mention that Hoglaw, Because when he returned my call I was already on the creek fishing. I had to pull off just above a tricky shoal for about 10 minutes to finish the conversation. LOL

Sad News, I just started floating CC this year. He was already in the hospital at that time. His wife directed me to Marshall who has been handling the shuttles for Jim. He's been doing a good job the few times I've been down. Haven't had him go for beer yet.

Great photo, Joe. Too bad I didn't take one of him driving away in a cloud of dust -- that man sure liked to drive fast on those country roads.

He will be missed.
