Champ188 Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Thanks for the great info, wmander. Good to have a professional's take on the topic. Codywskeeter1521 1
Sore Thumbs Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Awesome. When an eye doctor weighs in you better pay attention. Good stuff. I love my Oakleys but their lenses don't last very long. Any lens with a color coating from Oakley will lose its coating and start chipping off.
5bites Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I should have added I much prefer the 580p's in costa. I had a pair of 400p's briefly. My eyes did not like them. I haven't tried 580g's but I know they'd only be better. Id break them suckers in a heartbeat though so I won't buy them. Lenses clarity is why I stick with costa. It's probably a confidence thing.
fishinwrench Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I have had a couple pairs of high-end shades but really couldn't tell that much of a difference from my usual 25-30.00 stuff. They scratch just as easily on shirt tails and seem to fly off my hat even easier than lightweight cheapies. I have probably 300.00 invested in shades, but that includes about 15 pair.
Sore Thumbs Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I used to lose them too. Drop a couple hundo on a pair and you tend to pay more attention to their whereabouts.
fishinwrench Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Spend a couple hundo on 8-10 pair and you'll still have a pair handy even if you do loose/break one.
5bites Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 The strike king s11's are supposed to be decent for cheapies. I thought about buying some for spares.
Champ188 Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I keep my Costa Zanes on a lanyard. They're either on my face, around my neck or hanging from the rear-view mirror in my truck. Haven't lost a pair since I started doing that. Tanderson15 1
Terrierman Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Glass lenses seem to hold up a lot better for me than even the scratch reistant polycarbonate ones. But so far so good on the Ray Bans which are the only pair of good shades I have that aren't glass.
Champ188 Posted July 28, 2015 Posted July 28, 2015 Costa does a great job of keeping their glass lenses lightweight, so I really don't see any advantage to the plastic ones other than cost savings. And when you're buying premium sunglasses, I'm not sure price should be a determining factor anyway.
