Champ188 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Has anyone tried the 7' Light Eyecon for trout and light bass fishing? Not sure you'd want to go lighter than ML for bass fishing of any kind. I enjoy finesse fishing with 4-to-6-pound line and do it frequently, but a true light-action rod would seem to be just too whippy.
Ham Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Has anyone tried the 7' Light Eyecon for trout and light bass fishing? I've been sorely tempted. Try calling Dorber Rods in Flippin, Arkansas. They have a 7 foot rod they call a "UL", but it really is a fast action "L" that I love for trout and LIGHT bass fishing. The call it the OMT UL 84. When I say light bass fishing, think thin wire open hook jigheads and finese hardbaits. Its gonna throw really light lures 1/32 to 1/8 oz well and protect light line, but it is not gonna drive a big nail. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Members cbass12 Posted August 5, 2015 Members Posted August 5, 2015 I like a little longer rod for Ned. My dedicated rod is a Shimano Crucial 7'1" ML/F which is the previous black model and was the light shakyhead rod. It works extremely well for the technique. The new 7' M/F Crucial is very similar in power and action from what I've observed and would be a very good rod for Ned.
Members Lusty Murfax Posted August 5, 2015 Members Posted August 5, 2015 Any reel recommendations to go along with those rods and line? I am always eager to learn from more experienced fishermen.
Sore Thumbs Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Hard to go wrong with Shimano spinning reel. The lower end ones are still pretty good. If you spend $60 plus with Simano it should do what you need. I like the 2500 size. Just the right size.
Champ188 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I have both Shimano and Lew's spinning reels. No real complaints with either. Like Thumbs said, you need to spend $60 minimum to get a decent reel these days. I'd suggest staying away from the BPS Johnny Morris models. I have two of them combined into one now since they both started falling apart after far less than 100 hours of use.
Larry Eby Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 If you're local as in Springfield area. Stop in at Fin & Feather shop on Campbell just north of battlefield and Campbell street across from incredible pizza. Ask John the same question. I believe he's running a sale on poles and might possibly cut you a deal on a Lews wide spool reel. Knowledgable staff, friendly and keeping the business local. And they have Ned jig heads. Thanks Larry, that is a great post. I have never went wrong shopping at the Fin. If your trying to stay under $80 however I'm afraid I would not have a dog in this fight. Carry on. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
ryan Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Can't go wrong with Denali, the Kovert series is a great price for the quality of rod. big c 1
5bites Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 I'm a big fan of the 13 Fishing Omen series rods. The guides could be better but the feel and balance is phenomenal for the price. They have them at cabelas and hook line and sinker also I believe. They redesigned them so the new ones won't be out until later this month sometime.
