David Unnerstall Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Oh Wrench you know what the deal is... .08 or above means at least $5,000 the state's pocket. That's what they care about over anything else. Insurance companies benefit more from DWI's than the state. I wonder how many members of the General Assembly are insurance agents. conorsixtakc 1
fishinwrench Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Society just worries itself sick about folks driving with a buzz. Every DUI arrest makes headline news, but you seldom hear a word about drunks with guns....and you know that happens all the time. A drunk with a gun is apparently no big deal, but if you have a buzz and a set of car keys you are the most deadly thing on earth. Weird.
nomolites Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Guys....its almost bow season, i bet he was just scouting. that's funny. As far as the DUI/DWI debate goes most of the serious accidents I have seen resulted from someone not paying attention to what they were doing. Much higher probability of this occurring with an impaired driver - I don't care so much if they simply take themselves out as that is their choice but collateral human damage is not acceptable. I have driven impaired in the past and I was WRONG. I thank God I didn't hurt anyone. Mike conorsixtakc 1
fishinwrench Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 Probably the worst kind of collision is a head-on where someone crosses the line in your path, and I bet the fault of most of those are sober women during the middle of the day. "Sober" assuming we are still eliminating anti-depressants and hormone drugs from the list of things folks can't be under the influence of. conorsixtakc 1

"Sober" assuming we are still eliminating anti-depressants and hormone drugs from the list of things folks can't be under the influence of. a couple of weeks ago I was going down the little country road to the house, around 1 pm or so.. There was a little white cross over type car coming toward me. It just kept moving over closer and closer toward me. I finally was almost in the ditch to avoid a head on. She, older aged female, finally looked up from her phone and swerved back right.

I travel a bit on our highways on business and have seen some ugly stuff related to distracted driving and cell phones. At the end of the day any individual driving is responsible for their safety as well as those around them. Distractions kill people; it can wait. Glad you didn't get hurt Jerry. Mike conorsixtakc 1
fishinwrench Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Is 5 beers (roughly) what it takes for the average person to blow .08% ? I can not only drive fine after 4-5 beers, I can play volleyball, badminton, Frisbee, ect. and do it all pretty well. After 7-8 I might start loosing to the average sober person. Seriously though, after 4-5 beers I either get full or get a headache.

Seriously though, after 4-5 beers I either get full or get a headache. If we're talking average person (wrench you may be excluded from this one ) I've heard the general rule of consumption to BAC ratio is 1 beer per hour=.08. Sounds crazy I know. Granted there's a lot of variables present, but in theory an average person could blow around a .08 after drinking three beers over a 3 hour period. We all know they could still be better drivers than half the people on the road at that point though.
fishinwrench Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 That sounds about right. 3 beers gives me a noticable buzz but it dang sure isn't gonna cause me to rear end someone or drive my boat into a bluff. My step sister was killed in a head-on and they ruled it alcohol related, said the drivers of both vehicles were drunk. The thing is though, that both my sis and the other guy had just gotten off work 20 minutes before the crash. They MIGHT have had time to stop for one beer but there is no way either of them were truly intoxicated. I suspect most of the DWI fatalities are similar. They may have some alcohol in their system but it is NOT the cause of the accident. Stuff just happens.
