grizwilson Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 Yeah Tony's on Main is one of my favorites. Ate there Saturday as a matter of fact. I'm surprised Ham and Griz Wilson haven't replied. But maybe they are lucky enough to be fishing instead of this. Pete Well Pete, Ham is becoming a workaholic, think he only fished 4 days this week, worked 3. I did manage 5 but, it is football season had to hang in today but tomorrow????. I think the 15 will be fine, if they are running 6 large it can be Very slow. the 54 wide can help it get up higher on plane. Going slow saves boat damage. The only time I have been in a tight is big flow, a 1636 will 3 guys, a 5 hp and heavy fog, seemed like it was going to get dark before we made State Park from Cane Island. Ham and I run 25/20 merc jets two stroke on 2042 boats. If I were to change it would be a 2048 with a 40/25 Tohatsu jet....... or maybe a 1848 alweld with same motor. But the 15 is will work, if we are running shallow water we take trolling motors off. I do have a 9.9 prop for going up Buffalo and CC, and use it when there is lots of trash/leaves in the water, it works fine and would guess your 1654 would draft and weigh similar to my 2042 glass. My 2 cents. If I were buying new I would go rent a 15 to see.... could end up with 7 outboards 4 boats in shed like me.... g N9BOW 1 “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
N9BOW Posted September 21, 2015 Author Posted September 21, 2015 Thanks g!I pick the boat up at the builder and will be using it on the Pere Marquette River the weekend its ready. Ill try a 15hp on it when Im up there. Also thanks mhowerton on the tip for Heidi's for burgers sandwiches and deserts. Eric
Ham Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I think you'll be fine. Lots of guys run 10 HP. The big water is a pain, but it shouldn't be a safety concern. You'll zip along nicely at 5000 CFCs. It'll be a little slower at 20 K. I had a tough stretch at work, but a coworker has healed very nicely from his surgery and is back at work. My OT hours are over for a little while. I did not fish today. I power washed my house. Fishing would have been more fun. N9BOW and grizwilson 2 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Members dennishoddy Posted September 24, 2015 Members Posted September 24, 2015 We just left the White below Bull Shoals last Thursday. I took my 14' v bottom with a 20hp merc, but saw lots of 20' resort boats with 15hp on them. I have a locator with GPS on mine. With two people in the boat and gear, we could go 18mph down stream, and 11 mph upstream against the major current. we had 12-14' water depth from Sportsman's resort to the dam. Hope this helps.
