Champ188 Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I'm pretty partial to my stand up football head's I make. Fine-looking heads, Travis.
Travis Swift Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 Thanks for the compliments. Those big heads have been popular in texas (I sell my shakey heads on the Texas fishing forum to fund my taneycomo trout trips). Guys down there use them for big worms but I have a group that have bought a ton of the 7/0 and put big swim baits on them. They claim it looks like a baitfish feeding nose down. I sell a ton of the stand up football heads to people on Lake fork though...go figure. Ivery had 3 fish over 10 pounds and 1 fish over 11 pounds that I know of caught on my jigs heads. I may never be able to do that especially here in kansas but it's pretty darn gratifying to just play a part in it. One thing I like about the stand up footballs is I make them either to stand straight up or at an angle either one. I'm usually on the taneycomo board but watch this one alot to, good chatting with you guys. Champ188 1
5bites Posted September 22, 2015 Author Posted September 22, 2015 Here's the arkie jig head I mentioned. Obviously the hook is all wrong for a shaky head but the keeper is great. It seems to hold well and goes on better than the screw keeper. If you use robo worms it's hard to keep the screw keeper centered and not coming out the side due to the worms small diameter. I'm obviously outnumbered on this preference though. Travis those do look like great heads. For the big worm and swim bait like you mentioned I could see them being killer. magicwormman 1
Dutch Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 I use the Elaz Tec worms mostly and have not found a satisfactory head yet. I have 5 different types which I made and am trying out tomorrow to see if any work for me.
5bites Posted September 22, 2015 Author Posted September 22, 2015 Are you experimenting with head design or worm keeper?
5bites Posted September 22, 2015 Author Posted September 22, 2015 Here are a couple I'm wanting to try. The Gamakatsu head looks funny but that keeper is exactly what I'm after. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Gamakatsu_Stand_Up_Alien_Heads_4pk/descpage-SUA.html http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Keitech_Shakey_Football_Tungsten_Jig_Heads_3pk/descpage-KSFTJHD.html

To make it easier, I took a Dremel tool and sharpened the end of the coil lock. You just have to be careful and not thread your finger on instead of the bait. crazy4fishin 1
M_Taylor Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I use a shaky head a lot on Beaver Lake and have really grown fond of the Squirrel Head made by Jewel. 1/8oz is most common for me, but I occasionally go up one size. I have tried others, namely the Spot Removers, and not had nearly the hook up ratio. And I have lost way more hooks with that one, not to mention fish. 5bites 1
Members slowbait Posted September 23, 2015 Members Posted September 23, 2015 if you have trouble skewing your bait on the skew on type, try heating the skew for a few seconds with a lighter then put bait on. IT REALLY WORKS EASYER 5bites, fowlthing and *T* 3
Ranger Z22 Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 my preference is a round head with the screw lock, gamakatsu hook may have as many as 3 tied on for worm, centipede, speed craw. z22 Champ188 1
