Champ188 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Champ I think you are right on - It seems that Brian Snowden is under the same impression, or he called you for advice ,that since the thermoclime did not happen this year the fish are up shallow - he thinks 40lbs will be the winning weight. C4F LOL C4F, I can assure you Brian doesn't need my help. He's a darn good stick and if the dock bite is on, he could be very hard to beat in this one. Besides, he's just a nice fellow.
Ham Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I'd like to catch a flathead like that sometime, and I'm real surprised he was able to get it in. On Tablerock and Bull Shoals, every time I've hooked a "freight train" while bass fishing I've always been disappointed when it turned out to be a giant carp or drum. I never understand why guys hang a monster fish and are having a great time, but lose their enthusiasm when they see it is a drum or a carp. Enjoy what you catch. Enjoy everything you catch! *T* and Sam 2 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Fishin Hodge Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 "On another note, I have never seen the paddle fish jumping like they are now. I have almost hit at least 2 or 3 everytime out. They are jumping lake wide in droves. Looks like Grand lake up here." That would probably be more likely and explain the rounded bill. Makes sense I reckon. It was a good one for sure.

Enjoy what you catch. Enjoy everything you catch! You're right of course, and I do enjoy, remember, and treasure those experiences. Sometimes monster fish get caught on tackle a lot lighter than bass gear, too. Last fall I was crappie fishing with a light spinning rig near Buttermilk Springs, cast to the bank, and got ahold of a fish that had us chasing it with the trolling motor. Luckily it headed for deep water instead of getting in the brush, and about 20 minutes later the fish was finally fought down, exhausted, and laying on its side beside the boat. I reached out with pliers and unhooked my crappie jig from the lip of a carp that my partner and I estimated at over 40" long, and I'll tell ya - that 10 lb. test, 2 lb. diameter PowerPro Braid is GOOD line! At the time, I might have been a little disappointed about not putting flathead catfish steaks in the freezer - but I'll always remember getting that big fish in on such light tackle.

Enjoy what you catch. Enjoy everything you catch! Its a target species deal, ive caught some very nice bass while walleye/crappie fishing, and just thought "darn another green one".
