Haris122 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 darn man, I'm so jealous. I had thought of dropping by 66 State Park tomorrow after practicing shooting at Jay Henges one last time before deer season. I don't think I'll make it but that is a sweet fish. I can't see real good on that pic for the length, that was 20" right?

Glad you all are all catching them in a major population area. Good stuff. Eh....Most folks will go once...get skunked for a few hours and not go back. Remember that you really only see the best reports or highlights here. What doesn't get posted are the hours of nothing...numerous snags...less than scenic views....and plentiful drum and gar. What you don't see a lot of is "walked the bank for 3 hours and caught 1 small bass and lost a lot of lures" but I'd bet that it happens more often than not. At least that's usually how it goes for me. It's not an easy place to fish.

I just so happened to catch that fish within the first 5 minutes of being there, and then walked the rest of the walkable bank without having to climb up the bank to get to more walkable bank with only having one other small fish on that got off without me seeing it. I would say that there was a lot of luck involved. If I didn't have the blowup on my first cast I would have never thought twice about fishing that spot again. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson

Haris122 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Quote And that's exactly how it went. I would say that there was a lot of luck involved. If I didn't have the blowup on my first cast I would have never thought twice about fishing that spot again. That's how it unfolded for me today (as in the unsuccesful trip). I went to the shooting range, it was packed with an hour long wait (kind of feared that to be the case), so I said to hell with it and went up to Route 66 State Park instead. I don't think I fished the same section moguy did, cause I just went by the boat ramp and a spot nearby I'm familiar with. I only had 40-50 minutes to do it so I just kind of threw a spinnerbait and flicker shad cause that was all I had handy that I was confident in. Nothing happened. Got a few bites on the flicker from some small sunfish that couldn't get hooked on the trebles, and potentially something else small that got away, but that was the extent of the action. I did witness some small bass ambushing a school of minnows of some sort. That was pretty interesting to see. I think after next week I need to kayak the meramec near there. It looks like a cool area for kayak fishing.
joeD Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Great fish 1973! Second time I've seen a big fish pulled out of there. Maybe I should quit walking my dog there and fish. Splendid! In November no less. FISH ONNN!
Hog Wally Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Quick rundown of this stretch of river: its probably the worst stretch of river to fish for the average guy. Anyone who sees the pictures and heads down there for a awesome day is gonna be disappointed Unless you are Smallie bigs. He absolutely has it figured out and he gets it. Unfortunately most of the rest of us are gonna catch a random dandy and be mesmerized by it. From pacific to the Mississippi sucks!!! I'm sorry but it's the truth. With that being said I am going down there tomorrow. Don't ask me why. Cause it sucks. Any questions?
Old plug Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 mjK------There are a lot of people on here are not MOST FOLKS, Listen to Jerry. You all keep talking and your going to Internet some of these OTHER FOLKS. You would not like the results.
joeD Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 OMG! The Meramec is ruined! People know everything now! Bourbeuse, here we come! Hog Wally and Smalliebigs 2
