I am headed down from Kansas City tomorrow with my dad and father in law. Will be in father in laws fishing pontoon. Not the swiftest vessel on the lake, so won't be able to run too far too quick. Staying near clevinger branch. Sounds like they may be just about anywhere- points, backs of pockets and creeks etc.  father in law is not the greatest fisherman ( not that I am either), so any suggestions?  I have most any of the staples as far as lures, Ned, spoons, plopper, spook, jig, etc. if I was to guess I may try some tapering points with spoon or Ned or jig. Would like to get some topwater. Maybe in the backs of pockets where shad are present?

mainly just excited and wanted to get some fishing talk going. Good luck to everyone this weekend.

By the way, I was at LOZ last Saturday and couldn't catch a cold. Feels like I'm cursed these days!

Good Luck...It's been tough.

I know everything about nothing and know nothing about everything!

Well we fished from about 11:00am to 5:00pm. It was pretty bad. I caught three short smallmouth and lost one keeper and hooked into and fought another that I lost that felt pretty nice. I caught the smallie a on a ned near bluff type banks where they transitioned into chunk rock about 15-20ft deep. Lost the two nice ones on a spoon. I threw it all today. Not a sniff on the plopper.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better. At least it was nice weather!

Today was pretty slow again for us. Did catch a pretty spot. Couldn't get much of a pattern. Caught the nice spot off a breakwater. Caught some small smallie a in 25' of water or so on a ned. Threw the whopper plopper and everything else I own and very minimal results. I have ended up losing about 5 spotted bass on a war eagle spoon.  They just seem to throw it when I hook them. Maybe  I need to set it a lot harder than I have been, but have been reluctant with 6 lb test to set the hell out of it.

Why use 6-pound line on a spoon? I don't use anything smaller than 15 and usually go with 17 or 20. It's a reaction bait. No need for finesse gear.
