Old plug Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 Never met Richy611 but I can guarantee you he know swim baits backwards and forward just by his post. He specizes and that is 1000 times better that a box full of lures.
evilcatfish Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I was joking. I thought the sarcasm was evident Ham 1

I am so glad I never really warmed up to the big fake fish. Lets me spend that kind of $ on tiny worms instead. Much better. Ham and Champ188 2
fishinwrench Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I have been playing with some of the hollow bodied swimbaits (Bass Magic, Shadalicous type) and other than targeting fish suspended under docks I really haven't found the right niche for them yet. The dock fish seem to eat a jig, chatterbait, or spinnerbait just as well (or better) mostly because they are reaction strikes. What type of areas are you looking for when throwing your swimbaits ?
mjk86 Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Wow....that's about what my boat cost me seriously. :/ There really is no comparison however in terms of realism. They are like works of art.
mjk86 Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 When fishing those things do you get way more bites than hook ups? I notice with 2 treble hook jerk baits and top waters that my hook up ratio drops. Although that's probably something I'm doing. Seems like with those things most fish would not get hooked? That would be very frustrating to me.
Moswimb8slinger Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 @Fishinwrench, just fish them where you find fish.lol this time of year I mostly find them on ledges with chunk rock or 45 degree chunk rock banks. @Mjk86, as slow as I reel them, they about eat it. The only missed fish are the one that slap the bait with they're mouth closed (territorial thing I'm guessing). If I'm working the Lunker Punker, which makes drastic directional changes (it's like a big Spook), I've twitched it at a moderate speed and have had fish miss the bait. Other than that, I usually have really good hook ups. evilcatfish 1
evilcatfish Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I'm with Richy, hookups are better than you might think. I remember telling myself when I got my first mini slammer "how will a bass fit this in its mouth?" now I fish baits much bigger than that. The main issue that annoys me about swimbaits/big baits is that it seems some guys (mostly out west) become so obsessed with them that they develop a "swimbaits or nothing else" mindset like its a lifestyle choice or something. I feel like that is ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, catching fish on a swimmer is pretty exciting as you feel like every time it could be "the one" but limiting yourself to a certain style seems silly. Yea, swimbaits are awesome but if there is a good jig bite then switch it up. Sorry, just wanted to vent briefly
Old plug Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 I stopped using them because my bones do not let me cast and reel the heavy stuff anymore. I am still able to use the. Smaller plastic ones 6 to 7 inches long. I am sure they will work every bit as well as th larger ones. I just have not taken the time to find out the where ,when and how of it as it applies to my area. I have been a jig or worm fisherman most of my life. I doubt I will ever change at this late date. But swim baits can be fish busters by those who will take the time to really understand and use them that's for sure. Champ188 1
