fishinwrench Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 I have some nice bass located near a shallow rocky hump near a spring. For the last couple days I have been getting them to bite a lipless crank using a lift & drop type retrieve, but now they are getting conditioned to that and won't bite it very well. I need a suspending jerkbait that will go no deeper than 3'. I tried heavy line on an rogue and a Husky jerk, but that still gets down too far. They will body slam a fluke but I have to stay back and make long casts....can't detect the bites on the fluke. And they won't come up and take a Spook for some reason. Any ideas ? Who makes the shallowest running jerkbait ?
Jerry Rapp Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 try this. Take a floating rogue, drill some holes in, let it fill with water to become neutrally buoyant. It will stay where stop it. Use a 6X tippit, and 9 ft long shooter fly rod. If that don't work, go back at night and gig them. I bet they look like carp. Let us know if you try the rogue trick.
Old plug Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 yeah wrench try one of those sinkos Mitch made. Maybe skitter it a bit before you let it go en twitch it going down.
Old plug Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 now you have me interested in taking a drive up to spring. Branch

BilletHead Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 Wrench why not the fly rod and one of your air heads? Dutch Posted November 22, 2015 Posted November 22, 2015 The X rap doesn't go very deep. They make several sizes of them.

It is just out of my casting range with the flyrod because of the back casting room. The reason I've been using a lipless crank is because I can sling it a mile. You'd understand if you saw the area. Jerry, the rogue gets too deep, if it hits bottom on top of the hump it ether hangs up in the rocks/wood or gets fouled with leaves. The fish come up on the hump every afternoon and some of them are really nice 3-4 pounders. I caught 3 of them this evening on the lipless crank but it took 1000 casts to get them and I got hung up a bunch. I bet there are 30-40 solid keepers there. BilletHead 1
