I believe that is the masking tape. But who knows maybe YOU are onto something with bright colored bills. Maybe catch some walleye on them.
abkeenan Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Jolicious, I really like that top one you have. Almost like a smoke gunmetal hologram flake color. Big fan of smoke myself.
Guest Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 what size are the split rings on those jerks? they look massive. Did you try heavier gauge hooks or even adding a belly hook swivel to add weight? It looks like the learning curve might be kinda steep on those suspenders.

Big fan of smoke myself. Thanks boss - I have a couple spook-type baits in that, and it really shines when the sun hits the water as the bait moves. That one is a Spazstix brand silver backer base coat and holographic top coat. The more coats, the more "pop" that silver gets. It's fun to work with - as long as the window is open and I am wearing a face mask. Might be fun with the facemask, now that I think about it..... Champ188 1

If it's like that Sapzstix color shift paint, I think you'll like it. On all of the baits in these three pictures, the same color is on the top of each bait in each pic (Green/Purple/Teal color shift). As you can kind of see (never could figure out hot to get the flash to show all three shades at the same time), there is a lot of movement across the color spectrum depending on angle of light. My advice is to use a hi-gloss black for a primer coat if you want the top coat to have depth; a silver or white hi-gloss primer if you want it to "flash" more. I have found that if I'll take my time and let each coat completely dry, I can get 4 or 5 thick coats on there, and the color shift is really, really cool! These pictures show the color shift on a hi-gloss black primer: This last one is a different color shift pattern, but it's still cool (well, I think so anyways). It goes from a deep umber to gold depending on the angle. I was thinking might be a good scheme for a Wiggle Wart maybe? mjk86 and Fish24/7 2
Guest Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Excellent! Ive been using Gem Ruby color shift over a dark brown back & its very similar to your last photo. My dad & I have caught hundreds if not thousands of bass on that color square bill in the last few years.I know he caught over 500 on 1 particular bait, then broke it off in some rocks at lake Eucha last fall. He was so mad that he went back on a slick calm day & found the bait "shining" in between 2 rocks. So he stripped down to his underwear & took a dip. I made him retire that bait so he wouldn't lose it again.
abkeenan Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Man Jolicious, you have some talent my friend. Heck all of you do. When I tried my hand at painting baits NONE of them turned out like what you guys have posted. Those things are just too purdy to fish.
Guest Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I'm getting one of these for Christmas. No more sinus/allergy infections
