fishinwrench Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Line tie is too far back. No hope for that batch of pours. I wouldn't waste a blade on it.

Do you think it will run straight without the blade? I'm not married to it. I just need something that works in open water around big shad schools

No, I doubt that it will even sink straight much less run straight on retrieve. I'd stay with the Blakemore heads and maybe tweek the eyelet forward a bit. I've never found ANYTHING that works in open water among thick schools of shad. Not consistently anyway.
Guest Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I'm targeting numbers of spotted bass with crappie & whites. Pole timber on bluff ends & deep boat docks with brushpiles. Your right I just need a proper hook on 1/8 & maybe 3/16 jig heads. I guess swimming a grub is the same thing, but I need 2-2.5" stuff for the little rascals.
Guest Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Screw it, I'm gonna throw a rock crawler & Mitch F craw tomorrow with all this runoff.
fishinwrench Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I do pretty good on Kentucky's with 3" Sassy shads and 3" Kalin grubs. Both on 1/8 heads and 8# line.

fishinwrench Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 These are the heads I use on both Here's the tweeked RR head. If you do your eyelet like that then you can "tune" it to run straight just like a crankbait..... BUT it doesn't work if the hook eye comes out of the lead BEHIND the swivel, like the ones on Tad's
Pepe Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Ball head jig works great for letting your lure do the work without head interference. Completely agree on the Pony head jigs. Line tie needs to be ahead of the swivel to make it run horizontal. I also see some of these out there where the spinner blade has little or no clearance below the plastic bait. A bunch of the Underspin heads have that same design issue. dtrs5kprs and Champ188 2
