Glad you were able to get on some and put a few in the boat. That Ned rig is a fish-catching machine.

We will be back at it tomorrow morning on the NED.. hope to catch a few before noon. Will Update.

Sent you some rough guesses on where to look. Think a lot of folks are trying to fish too deep out of habit and conventional wisdom. Being close to depth is good, but not sure you need to fish depth now.

And don't forget to use Loctite super glue in the Gel formula (blue/silver bottle with squeeze triggers on the side). This glue performs soooo much better than others with the Elaztech.

js sickle hook on a Ned head doesn't need glue or a guard. The bend in a sickle  hook keeps the worm from sliding down , and once hooked the fish can't throw it easily The angle of the hook point in relation to the angle of the jig eye helps prevent hang ups The shorter hook shank on a sickle. The flat sides and bottom  of the head fish through brush and rocky bottom easily.  After many experiments with hooks and heads  I went with the flat sided, flat bottom head design and a sickle. Just about anyone can make their own Ned heads with a little help on the web.. You really don't need melting pots , do-it molds, or any of that stuff

Not going to argue weed guard vs sickle hook.  Personal preference, really.

I have not had that many problems with Dave's heads hanging up, and the hook-up ratio is outstanding!

Love that roof of the mouth hookset.

But I will disagree on the glue.

If you rely on the hook bend to keep the bait up against the head, then you are more apt to tear the bait, IMO, and it's a little tricky to thread the hook just right to make the hook bend keep the bait up tight.

Once you get a small slit, it makes it tough to keep it all the way up against head without re-hooking or adjusting.

With the glued head, I never have any issues.

I've had the same bait on my Ned rod for the past 3-4 outings, caught dozens of fish with it and haven't done anything to it other than re-tie from line abrasion.

I need to invest in the weed guard hooks you suggested.

We need to have a Ned Symposium some at someplace with a nice buffet. We could talk line preferences, rigging issues, retrieve options, etc. while we eat a TON. In a perfect world full of 15 inchers, a Zinker chunk would last a very long time indeed. In Ham's world where small fish and panfish bite the bait that shall not be named with an insane frequency, I have to re-glue, repair, and replace tails far more often than I want to.

No one is arguing. I am acknowledging your idea of using sickle hooks, and saying I'm not going to argue with that concept. (figure of speech)

I'm actually thinking gluing AND a sickle hook might be a great solution?
