MOPanfisher Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 Years ago I had a Co worker that had problems with squirrels eating his tomatoes, since he lived out in the country he would shoot them with a .22 Mag. One day he shot at one that had a tomato in its paws and missed and hit the mater. After that he would set on his porch drinking beer and try to blow up tomatoes as they ate them. He said he enjoyed that more than shooting them. He was a bit odd, I would have used my .22 Hornet. Flysmallie and ness 2
BilletHead Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Oh Nessssssss hollering for Ness, I am beginning to feel a bit guilty about showing you this. We just got in from picking. Gave them a little wash job before posting. I hope this is not like twisting the knife BilletHead ness, Seth and Johnsfolly 3 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" MOPanfisher Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 They are coming on strong at my house too. My wife, daughter and friends are planning on having a "Pico Party" on Saturday, they will make a huge bowl of Pico and then spend the day playing games and eating it, they like it chunky, but being a lazy sort I tend to run them through a food processor instead of chopping/dicing them. Pulse it just a little long and you can pour it into a glass to drink, thinking this year I will add a little vodka to mine and simply enjoy the day quietly. My purple Cherokees haven't starting turning yet, but the others, are putting out, the Beefmasters and Beefsteaks, Celebrity, mortgage lifters, jet star, heck I am not even sure what else is in there, but they are doing well, squash have about quit, but still are providing all I want, cukes have slowed down but still putting out as well. Sweet Corn should be about ready, but it looks so yellow and sad I haven't checked, but the coons have been checking for me. The canteloupes are looking good too, it was so wet for so long I couldn't get into the garden, I opted to spray them with Arrow, which is a grass killer, seems to be doing the job, and now that it is dry enough to get into the garden, my tiller has decided to throw a bearing. That's how it goes. BilletHead, ness and Johnsfolly 3
tho1mas Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 At last, I got my fill of BLT's this week. Picked seven yesterday along with a bunch of plum tomatoes. Too wet here but at least I can't (or won't) have to mow. BilletHead 1
BilletHead Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 Sounds like most gardens are doing well. I am having a bunch of tomatoes starting to crack and split. Is this from being too wet? They are good just getting ugly.Billetheadl tho1mas 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" ness Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 I started gardening and keeping notes in 1991. That year I planted Jet Star and Celebrity tomatoes. Have planted Celebrity every year since then until this year. My starts just didn't do well at all. Pico party sounds good, and I like the idea of throwing in a little vodka. John
