MOPanfisher Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 A bunch on my early ones were splitting due to the wet weather. We could possibly do a zucchini type raid, everybody bring as many tomatoes as we can gather, wait till Ness is away from house, and cover the porch with maters. BilletHead and ness 2
ness Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 Yeah, the cracking is due to uneven watering -- like dry then really wet. I try to get out and water about every day and we've been getting some rain. Cracking doesn't really become a problem when they're as little and green as mine are. Sniffle. tho1mas and BilletHead 2 John
ness Posted July 13, 2016 Author Posted July 13, 2016 Grocery store had a small selection of 'homegrown heirloom' tomatoes. I was so desperate I paid the $4 a pound and bought a couple last night. One looked like a Cherokee Purple, the other was pretty big and soft and looked good. Cherokee Purple was OK, the yellow one was tasteless and watery. Dang it! I boo-hooed to my uncle the other day, and he offered me some. I've got to get over there and take him up on it. I should be complaining of canker sores by now. John
BilletHead Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 You are cracking me up like a tomato Ness. You just need to drive south. You can have one tomato for every ten cucumbers you take too. That is the only stipulation. . David Unnerstall Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 I have been eating cherry tomatoes and the others are turning orange. But I put out the broccoli too late. I feel so bad it just wilts in this heat and I am committing some sort of plant abuse.

MOPanfisher Posted July 13, 2016 Posted July 13, 2016 My maters took a hit today. Storm rolled through right after lunch. Got hame and the yard looked like a war zone, branches everywhere, one apple tree broken, maters flattened, dill weed patch flattened, wifes container plants rolled around, having to drain some water out of the pool and since my son didn't put the filter basket back in lots of stuff to vacuum out. All will grow back or be OK I am sure, no damage to house or peoples all else is acceptable. More maters will split, my mouth is getting pretty tender from all the acid eating them. Ness I may just start using them for reactive 22 targets, enjoy them store bought maters.

Johnsfolly Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 Fending off the rabbits starting to pay off with some ripe lemon boy tomatoes. Decided to try a mushroom garden with one of our plant boxes that gets too much shade. Spread out some old chanterelles and spread mulch over top. Maybe we get some next year. rps, ness and BilletHead 3
