War Eagle's have good wire, decent hooks, and nice blades but I have quite a few with loose heads.   I can't decide whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, as that wobbling head just might add a little something.

That's a good thing, it's just like those buzz baits you throw , their at their best just before they come apart.

Hey Bo,

have you had any problems like the attached with blade coming off or was I just catching to many bigguns with it ?, had two of your spinnerbaits do this to me. I have had other top brands do the same. I do like the design of changing different weight heads

That is just a split ring failure.

I detest curly-Q line ties.

Yah, was in bottom of boat in dead pile for awhile ?

hey Champ . . . have you changed your mind about one of your previously-recommended colors called SPOT REMOVER?

did that one have split ring or snap?  we are moving all models to a wire snap.  we need to educate the bass to quit hitting blade, which results in ripping the blade off.  just undo a #2 wire snap and run through the hole of the snap, and you are back in business, and will be able to change out the blade very easily too.

Maybe this will help you feel better....I was over at Jewel Baits (they make the War Eagle spinnerbaits) the other day to complain to Gayle about this very thing, I wanted to see exactly how they were put together because I was afraid of them coming apart and he showed me how they can't come apart, the hook and frame are permanently attached. I think they are using a soft lead and the fight of the fish loosens the lead. He also said he hadn't heard this before but would investigate....just FYI. I guess nobody complains so they don't know so maybe someone other than me needs to drop them a e-mail or call to complain about this, I think harder lead would be better.  C&R

Softer lead mix is exactly the issue with loose heads. When you make your own you can tweak it. When heads are spincast the lead has to meet more specific requirements to fill the cavity properly. Learned a lot about that last year.

And no, it doesn't seem to hurt a bit. If they are made well the wire should be locked into the hook eye with enough lead around it to keep everything from doing more than wiggling.

Absolutely not, wareaglecamo. Spot Remover is a very good color and can be fished in clear or stained water. It's available on both the nickel and gold frames, so my preference is to throw the nickel frame in clear water and the gold frame in stained water. Another stained water favorite that I failed to mention is Hot Blue Herring. I've caught a ton on that bait all the way from Lake of the Ozarks down to Dardanelle.

Not sure, I would have to look at another one to tell you. I think I remember blades coming off when boat flipping the fish when shaking their heads, I never wait for a net man or even use a net when after dark. Have had a few fool me and bounce off rub rail and drag em on in ?

War Eagle Spinnerbaits are fish catchers for sure, right up till the the wire breaks on the kicker you've been hunting all afternoon. I've lost more fish on War Eagles breaking the wire than any other bait I've used. Wish Gayle would start making his own baits again.
