Hound Dog. I Don't leave home without one. Doesn't always work BUT Almost always works in wood UNLESS the crankbait has wrapped on the limb. The dog has to be able to get direct to the bait. Don't drop the dog until you are in position or you might get the line caught on other wood before you get to your bait, Doing so is a very bad thing.

I use the retractable dog leash mod. I put an old blue David Fritts "Lure Gripper" on it and I get back any bait I've ever snagged. Sometimes it's tough with the wind howling to manage the boat, rod and retriever all at once. But I don't lose any baits to rocks or wood. A lure retriever is one of the best investments you can make. Pays for itself after saving a few baits and it makes you a better fisherman willing to throw into gnarly stuff you otherwise would wimp out on.

I posted it the other day here on the forums in a different thread. Here it is again. Just an FYI, I epoxied (heavy duty) the metal snap hook attachment permanently shut so the retriever has no chance of coming off.

Just for giggles I tried to see if they had any for sale on Ebay as they have been out of production for probably 10+ years. Looks like Lew's (of all brands, how weird) is going to re-release it. Could be in their store in Springfield for all I know. Kinda neat deal. Worth whatever price they charge for it. Don't see it on Tackle Warehouse yet but assuming they will have it at some point this year.

I bought the Bass Pro E-Z retriever late last year and I have not had to use it yet. Is this one any good compared to the Lew's?

No idea as I don't have one. I'm sure it will work fine.
